Melasma is caused by heat and sun & exacerbated by hormones. Try to avoid the sun are much as possible- wear a hat if you are out in it & or sunscreen.
There are products to lighten it. Prescription one that you can get from a dr. is called tri-luma. Works well but slowly, all lightening products work slowly because they first inhibit the melanin production.

Anything with hydroquinine will work but the ones over the counter can only contain 2%. This ingredients works best when the product contains an alphahydroxy. Hydroquinine can dry out you skin and cause it to peel. Murad has a good lightening gel that is very gentle. Kojic acid is another ingredient to look for.

Hey! I got a brochure at the dermatologist about melasma. First of all, wear sunscreen. Secondly, maybe Tri-Luma cream is for you. Go to TriLuma.com. There is a lot of information and results are quick!
I hope I helped!
