With all our ground troops stuck in the two countries in the middle east, and Iran getting a little feisty right now, wouldn't it be wise to go ahead and start the draft machinery rolling, and training troops, so we can throw them into battle when the time has come?
This is a serious question. If you don't have a serious response, and especially if you are a promoter of the war and yet have never served your country, measure your answer carefully before making yourself look silly.
I'm not saying the draft will be entirely necessary, but wouldn't it be a good idea to be prepared?
I highly doubt Iran will conveniently wait for us to be done in Iraq before they drop a nuke on Israel.

I'm for the draft...I believe that the draft would do alot of people good in life. It would for sure give these low life gangbangers and troubled teens a sense of direction, patriotism, and honor in their lives. All of which is sorely lacking in America today. Military service should be requirement of all males of fighting age. It would instill in them some discipline and teach them about teamwork and camaraderie.
I can't speak for Army, Navy, or Air Force, but I know if you send them to my Corps it will drill them with all that I've mentioned above.

No not yet due to the fact if we ever need another draft our military can be up to WWII size very quickly with one, within 6 months we could field an additional million or so troops. I would only expect a draft if North Korea would do something stupid they have over 1 million in their military, Iran could be easaly handled with what we have now there wouldnt be a need for an invasion we could destroy most of their military from the air then with some short military incursions from Iraq and sea. They arent that well equiped.

it would certainly pay off to be prepared for such an ocasion, but honestly the draft isn't necessary. the thing that makes the u.s. military so great is that every single person in it is there by choice. they have their own motivations to be fighting, rather than being forced to by the government. also, against popular belief, our military is NOT running out of people. we currently have barely a fraction of our armed forced present in Iraq/Afghanistan, and we have many more available should Iran try somethign stupid (unfortunately it's looking like they're really trying to go forward with it). finally, if Iran does make a nuke and then somehow get it on our soil to blow it up (probably by sneaking it through the texas/mexico border) there would probbaly be a surge in volunteers to join the military to get revenge or whatever. i know if Iran sets one off anywhere within 3000 miles of me i'll be visiting the recruitment office the next day

The selective service system had an audit to determine preperation recentley and I think it would be a good idea to start the draft again. If both women and men were required to complete 18 months public service I think it would help the country alot with all the selfishness and arrognece currently in the nations youth. Give everyone an option between military service, peace corps service. or local charity/civil service. The nation wodl benefit a great deal in character and security.

There might be something like that before Bush invades Iran because he has our military spread out way to thin. The scary part is that all of the people in high places are using the same script (talking points) that was used before we invaded Iraq. This must make the script writers happy because it's the same thing except to replace the "Q" with a "N".

Iran is at least a decade away from being able to do that. Dirty bombs from terrorist organizations are much more likely and since these groups are spread out into many different countries, it is hard to send armies in to defeat them.
Also, Iran has many problems within their own borders. It would be a mistake for them to make trouble in the global community right now.

NO. We don't need a draft. There are plenty of brave men and women who are proud to serve their country. Europe is closer to Iran, if they don't want a Radically Religious government to have a nuclear weapon they need to do something about it. Israel has the ability to unload a wave of nuclear weapons on Iran that would make living there unhealthy for about 10 years.

A draft to defend our country from attackers is one thing, but a draft to send and end more innocent lives in a war that should never been started would be wrong and I would be one of the first to protest it.
