I don't know, in that I don't know much about John Paul the Great.
Anyone who is born of God, born of His Spirit, cleansed by his blood, joint heirs with Jesus, part of the family of God is a Saint (saint means holy) All who are born of God are to be holy (saint) because God is Holy.
Was John Paul redeemed by the blood of the Lamb? If yes, then he is a Saint.

I presume that you're referring to the previous pope. He was certainly a popular and effective television celebrity but I'll leave it to wiser heads to decide if being a religious pop star qualifies one for sainthood.
I personally lost respect for John Paul II when he failed to take responsibility for the child abuse scandals in the Catholic clergy. He did not use his bully pulpit to speak out publicly and forcefully against the abusers nor did he take charge of cleaning up the mess or preventing recurrence. He apparently went along with the policy of cover up that the American bishops are infamous for. John Paul II will have a lot to answer for on Judgment Day.

he is a person just like you and me.... only God will let us know who is and who isnt a saint... it really is God's annointing, and not something anyone on earth can bestow, tho certain 'religions' think they are the authority on it all
