All food gives you energy. Calories are energy.

Some foods are better than others, of course. Calories from carbs raise blood sugar, which is important to energy. Calories from protein burn much slower and provide energy over a longer period of time. That's why it's good to balance the two in any given meal. Sandwiches are great, for this very reason.

You want carbohydrates, the only energy source your brain can use. Its a matter of whether you want the energy to last longer (for example, in endurance events) or shorter (for those sudden bursts of energy when you just want to go psycho with all your sleepover buddies). Complex carbohydrates take longer to break down, and therefore the energy is sustainable, lasting longer. These foods are generally considered healthier and are lower in calories than simple carbohydrates, like sugars and sweets. Foods like pasta, wholegrain breads, muesli and some green vegetables (like peas and lentils) are all good sources of complex carbohydrates. To check if foods are complex or simple carbs, refer to the glycemic index. A complex carb will have a low GI.

Oher than that, 'energetic' foods should be protein rich. They release a chemical called tyrosine, which keeps you alert and energetic. These foods include poultry, eggs, fish, meat, cheese, milk, and tofu.

If you just want quick, short bursts of energy, try guarana. Don't go nuts though because its essentially caffeine, despite the healthy sounding name.

This is of course all scientifically proven stuff - personally, I've found ginger, chillis, and citrus fruits to give me a good pick-me-up. Hope I've helped!

The foods that give you energy are carbohydrates and fats. Fats give twice as much energy as carbohydrates. Carbohydrates include sugars and starches. Sugars give quick energy.
If your body does not have carbohydrates or fats it can use protein for energy.
All foods have calories. Some foods have empty calories such as soda, which means that it gives energy but no other nutrients.

Any producers, or foods that make their own food from the sun. Because as the trophic levels progress the original energy is lost at a rate of 10%. Example:

Human eats cow 1%
Cow eats grass 10%
Grass 100%

If you ate a steak or something, you would only get 1% of the energy you would get if you ate a salad. That is why it is titled "Healthy Food."
