I'm not seeing what you described as losing freedoms as much as making existing laws more meaningful.
Assuming that the guy got hung for murder, which despite what some people seem to think, is not one of our freedoms.. the only thing that changed is the method of justice.

I am the police and I disagree. I am subject to more restraints and scrutiny than any "regular" citizen. I believe I should be held to a higher standard because you have given me the right to take away your freedoms should the need arise. If you commit a crime, I will arrest you. If you try to harm me or another person, I will hurt you. IF you threaten me or someone else I have the legal right and authority to kill you. Therefore, I should be regulated more stringently than you.
Would my job be easier if many civil liberties were discarded, oh yeah. Would the streets be MUCH safer, you bet. But, once you start on that path, it becomes a slippery-slope.
Here's an example: LAPD Rampart division - when they shut those corrupt cops down the citizens actually raised hell. You know why? b/c before the Rampart division was operating, they couldn't let their kids play in the park for fear of getting shot, mugged or beaten. They were not worried about that while the division was open. To them, the ends (safe community) justified the means (corrupt cops) b/c they were after the really bad guys (and became bad guys themselves in the process)
The toughest thing about being a good guy: you can't do what bad guys do, no matter if the ends would justify the means. If you do, you're just a bad guy, with a 'good' purpose. Our civil liberties are that set us apart from the terrorist nations. they should never be discarded or surrendered.
The problem I see is that slowly moving wheel of justice. IF we could find a way to make punishment certain & immediate, it would be more effective than just severe punishment eventually.

what the hell are you talking about?
you're ******* crazy
why don't you go to North Korea, Iran, or any of those countries and see if you still have the same thing to say you have now.
yes certainly there will be less violence with a more brutal police, or that's what you think.
you don't think the people would revolt if the Free Country got taken away its freedom?
Maybe you should study history and see what happened to those leaders and tyrants that thought the same way. Pretty much, the people pulled off a revolution and the kings got their asses beat.
Or better yet you should just get an overall education.
stop smoking weed and go to school

Iran, China, Saudi Arabia, Myannmar, North Korea lack the freedoms that we have. Your question makes me wonder which country you would really like to live in.

I think you should be locked away for the protection of society and yourself. I find it hard to believe that you really think that giving up rights would be a positive step or that the military should be used orwould even allow itself to be used against its' own country.

One of two things: either you're a troll just out looking to stir up trouble, or you're out of your friggin' mind and need to go live in another country....North Korea or Iran, for example.
See ya! Have a nice trip! Adios! Don't let the door hit you in the *** on the way out!

I think that if we simply wait a few years you will have the answer to your questions. at the rate we are giving up our personal freedoms to over zealous government right wingers we will soon look like Stalingrad under Lenin

I agree. In my neighborhood, hoods would think they can do whatever they want and the police is to soft to stop them. We should do this as long as there's due process. However I don't support taking our freedoms away. Maybe freedoms of the gangsters should be taken away. Thanks for venting though.
