I have got a Sony S40 ...4,1 megapixels camera....
But with Zoom facilities ..it is lacking a lot... only 3 optical.
I want something a bit more advanced....
What type should I buy that has good or big Megapixels and at least 12 optical zoom...
Any suggestions.??

Look at a Canon Powershot S3-IS. It is a nice camera for not-too-much money.

See http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canons3is/

Click on "In-depth review" and "Read Owner Opinions" for each camera. Be sure to note that the reviews are many pages long so you don't stop after page one. Check the sample images, also. You can enlarge these to full size images if you click on the link below the picture. You will have to then put your cursor in the white space to the right of the picture and click once. After that, you can pass your cursor over the image and it will turn into a magnifier. Click it as a magnifier once and the image will go to full size and you can really examine the detail or look for artifacts like fringing or noise.

My daughter has had her Canon S2-IS for close to a year and we are both very happy with it. The S3 is "newer and better."

Ok, this is a hard one. I like Canon and have several from a point and shoot to a Mark II. What you buy totally depends on how much you can spend. I would suggest going to a site that offers reviews on several brands and cost ranges such as the one I use http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/ you can click on a brand or a dollar range or even by megapixels. It also depends on what you need a camera for. You wont use 16 megapixels if you just take pictures at school, on the other hand if you are going to make large poster pictures a point and shoot wont do. For zoom most good point and shoot cameras have selections of zoom. If you go up in cost you can change out lenses for larger zooms as you need them. It is all about cost. My best low cost point and shoot is a Canon A700 with a 6x zoom. it is fast and easy. I paid about $ 250 for it. By the way don't get hung up on just Canon. Look at reviews many brands are good.

Get an S3 from Canon. They are worth about $600 for the features but cost under $400. The S3 takes excellent video with great sound too. And image stabilization rocks. There are other cool features but you can research them further.

12x optical zoom is only available in bigger cameras . You can't go wrong with a Canon camera.
