yes, this is a very serious condition. Red blood cells supply oxygen to your entire body, so if you are low on them, either your marrow of yours bones is not producing them anymore, or you have a virus that is slowing the process of cell creation in your body. the only way that you could tell if you had low red blood cells, is if your doctor had a cell count, and if so they would have told you necessary treatment options. good luck getting better.

That is anemia, and yes it can be serious, because there can be underlying causes, which are very, very numerous. But it can also be only because you have a diet that is too low on iron (are you vegetarian, or vegan ?), have started a strenuous exercise program with insufficient resting period, or if you have very abundant periods, and the blood test is taken in that time or close, it could simply be that.

Many people with anemia will have unusual fatigue. If you have other symptoms, or a special diet, it would be important to mention them to your doctor, because it could help him find out the cause of your anemia.

Of course you can take iron supplements but be very careful, and follow the recommended dosage. Iron is highly toxic to the liver when taken in overdose. And also expect to have constipation if you take iron in this form.

It could be depending on the situation. You need to look at your complete blood count. Lack of oxygen in you blood can become a problem

I'm a nurse. No just take an OTC iron pills to build your RBC's. It can be serious if left untreated. I have low RBC's too. I buy generic iron pills, take one everyday. You also need to eat foods like red meat. I hope this helps you.
