I'm an artist and that was one of our assignments in art school. Red was explained as a warm sensation-a burn. Blue was cold such as cold cold water. Green was the smell of freshly cut melon or the taste of lettuce or celery. Pink was a ball of fluffy yarn.Neon colors were a combination of loud noise and the smell and feel of objects.

you can't I'm colorblind and nobody's given me a good explanation of them. or anything that makes me understand what they're talking about. I'm also an art student so I've taken a color theory class, it has helped me paint more realisticly but it's more based on logic then actually working knowledge of colors. I know red is supposed to be a warm color and green a cool , but I don't get it and see them the other way around.
They'll just have to manage like the rest of us - only major thing to remember as a color blind person is that the top light is red, and the bottom light is green when you come to a stop light.

Most colorblind people can see colors so you don't have to explain them.

But if you are colorblind (I am red-green) you can only distinguish about 10% of the wavelengths as with normal vision. I can see colors, but a lot less because many seem to be the same to me.

So the question would be: How can you tell a colorblind person how colorful the world is? And I don't think there is an answer on that.

I am red-green color blind so speak from experience. Please remember that the vast majority of people with this condition ARE perfectly aware of what red and green colours are! It is only certain shades of red/green which are difficult to distinguish from each other.

Describing green is a tough one. Red could be described as when your angry or when you get hot. Red is a lively color. Blue is a cool color, soft like cotton. Black is when your sad, like when someone has died. Yellow is a happy color.

some color blind people still see shades and can pick out colors from the amount of light they reflect.. but if they arent like that, the definition of color is a visual attribute of things that results from the light they emit or transmit or reflect; "a white color is made up of many different wavelengths of light" so tell them something like that

I haven't done this before... but maybe use other sensory experiences to describe it? I'm thinking of red and blue kind of like different kinds of music - they have a different emotional impact.
