Christianity, as a religion, is flawed. It is also an old religion, so it's had plenty of time to find out how to work around its flaws. The best way is to tell people that if they question God, then they don't have enough faith. The church teaches that if you don't have enough faith, you'll go to hell, so people swallow their questions and follow the church blindly. Notice that I didn't say that they followed God blindly.

In science, knowledge is extended by questioning everything. In most religions, knowledge is regarded as dangerous (remember that it was the Tree of Knowledge that bore the fruit that Eve gave Adam). Knowledge doesn't threaten faith in God; knowledge threatens faith in the church. The church knows this, so the church keeps the parishioners ignorant. To keep this programming intact, the church also instills various safety measures to ensure that the parishioner remains fundamentally ignorant, such as viewing anyone who questions God as disrespectful or even Satanic.

Not all branches of Christendom are like this. Some Christians are very open-minded and willing to ask questions about the nature of God and the universe, but those individuals seem few and far between when compared to the rest of Christianity.

I do not believe that it is disrespectful to question belief in God. I did at one time, myself. However, He changed my mind because I ask Him to become involved in my life, if He was really there. He is and He did.

Science is a wonderful thing. Many people have been helped by scientific discoveries. There are Christians who are scientists, they say that all of the discoveries show that God is here and involved with wanting good health and good things for the people that He loves.

Some people who believe in God take offense when others don't share their beliefs. It is kind of like the alcoholic being upset when other people won't drink with them. We all want some kind of assurance or affirmation of our beliefs. Not all believers take offense though. There are some believers that welcome non-believing people to question their belief in God because that gives the believers the opportunity to share their opinion and maybe change those people's minds. I would assume Jesus had that attitude from the record of the things he said and did. The Romans and Samaritans didn't belive in the God of the Hebrews, but I don't remember Jesus acting as if they were being disrespectful. He treated them with the same respect as the Jews. What I find interesting are people who can believe in the devil, but can't believe in God. How can people believe in one without the other? Maybe that is another question that needs to be asked.

It is not disrespectful to question anything including God, being disrespectful comes when someone ridicules another for what they do believe in... As a Christian there are a great many people on here with whose beliefs I would disagree, but that does not mean I have to disrespect the person.

What makes you think that people believe that? Doubt is not unbelief. People question to find truth. God says "come let us reason together". He GAVE us the ability to question. That isn't disrespectful. It's only disrespectful to Mock Him. This is God's world, those who are questioning science are using the same skills that God gave them.
Science is not antithetical to religion either...science observes the physical world. God made the physical world. It doesn't clash. What clashes is scientism or scientific philosophy that draws conclusions based on a presupposition that God doesn't exist. That's not science...that's religion.

Belief in a God / a higher power requires one to accept that they are imperfect and believe in things that sometimes can not be explained by science, but rather than accept / respect another person's opinion and say pray for the offender - they resort to personalizing their belief system and some people even feel it's their duty to save these non-believers from themselves.

Because no matter what you personally believe we should respect the viewpoint of others . Science is a discipline where man tries to unravel the mystery of God's Creation ...it is not an end in itself .We worship the creator who is a just & righteous God who commands us to worship him yet gives us the choice to make up our own minds .Unfortunately there will be a severe penalty for those who go their own way !

Because those who believe have closed thier minds to all other things, the feel that thier way is the only way. The reason they get offended or think it is disrespectful is that people do not want to think about what they believe, they just want to say they believe and that be it. People also get upset since it causes them to rethink thier decision and thier belief causing thier security blanket to vanish, making them feel alone and vulnerable.

I personally do not believe in anything, I have ideas. That way I am open to anything with evidence and logic. I am very happy with my decision and if anyone wants to question by beliefs, I just tell them I don't have any but I have ideas.

It isn't disrespectul to question the reason for a belief in god. It just so happens to annoy certain people as they feel that it would force them to think about their stance. Which is what leads people to what's known as the fear of the unkown. Most people are too afraid to ask questions as they are taught the story of Lucifer aka Satan and fear the same punishment. This is just my opinion and observastions. I admit I could be totally wrong.
