dc++ network hubs....by far the best solution i've found
everything is shared in full browsable folers so mp3s are full album rips....just about any ps2 or xbox dvd image will be in many hubs....lots of movies, both divx rips and full dvd images....any kind of software you might look for is there as well with all the keygens and activation workarounds
lots of original releases in rar form from the crack teams...anything from fairlight, deviance, razr, ect will all be in there

I would have to say that p2p programs are, as a rule, dangerous to use because of the potential threat of viruses. Acknowledging this, I would go with Limewire or Frostwire. Both use Gnutella and aren't terrible with viruses. Whats great about Limewire, is that you can get Limewire Pro from Limewire basic. How they couldn't know this was going to happen is a mystery to me.
You would be better off downloading torrents (using a client such as BitTorrent or BitComet) than using traditional p2ps. Even better would be to use a LEGAL option such as Napster, ITunes, Rhapsody, etc.
AVG Free Edition is a good anti virus. I would recommend Ad-Aware as well.

Limewire is better then Bearshare and it is free. Go here and take the basic (free) version - http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml
As far as anti virus and spyware here is what to do (all free) -
Download AVG anti Virus free here – http://www.get-antivirus.com/avg-antivirus
Download Microsoft Defender free here - http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
Download AdAware free here –
http://downloads-zdnet.com.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_2-10399602.html?tag=lst-0-1
With those three programs your computer will be pretty secure from viruses, ad ware, spyware & malware.
For a registry scanner - Hmmm - Go here for lots of info on registry scanners - http://www.compareregistrycleaners.com/?gclid=CPLM28PJyooCFRg_gQodcAELdw
