He will sometimes call me to go out with him and then I won't hear from him for several months at a time, and then he will call me back again to go out with him. He would sometimes call me and chat with me on certain occasions, but it would not be a weekly thing, but rather a haphazard kind of way. He has done so for several years now since I have known him. But he would meet up with me to celebrate on certain important occasions. He has given signals over the years to me, such as hinting going out to lunch with me etc., and going out to watch the movies with him. Even visiting one of his friends one weekend. He can sometimes be active in that we would meet up, and then I may not hear from him for several weeks and or months' at a time. Should I therefore be a bit more proactive, rather then let him make all the moves? It is driving me bonkers!!!! I just feel that I want to make some kind of move/action so that he might know how I feel about him!

Well, be honest with him. You need to know one way or another so that you can date other guys if he is not serious.

You do know you a human being and not some yo yo toy, move find someone that want to be with you and not jerk you around for years, hell not even I would put up with that.
Yes he's driving the car and when calls you, you come running to him eyes wide open, hey you know that sounds just like when I call my dog to go walk or a ride in the car. And i hope you don't feel you his lap dog? Go meet someone that's going to treat you like the woman deep inside wants to be treat.

Well first you need to find out what you are dealing with. It could be anyone of serveral things going on with him. Maybe he is embarrassed to admitt to financial difficulty and wants to be with you but feels that he can't so he rides on grace. Maybe he is using you to meet his desires. Maybe he is playing the field and doesn't know what he wants yet. Either way you need to talk to him and find out what he wants out of this relationship, don't be afraid to tell him what you want too. Honest communication is important in building a relationship. If he does not want to share his heart with you then what kind of relationship is he persuing with you? Sounds like use and abuse. If that is the case maybe you should find someone that will actually care about you, not just in one aspect.

The guy may be shy, and is afraid to show his true feelings, so it may take a while to cool off, or maybe he just dates other girls.
