"...and proud of it" :) I prefer weird or excentric, but I am definitely not mundane and I *am* proud of it, it's a lot more fun & I'm glad I have the courage to stand out sometimes, for back in high school I was very shy, did my very best to fit in even if I really didn't like the current fashion, and I was still bullied. After I learned to stand up for myself I could do things that are viewed as excentric (I go barefoot everywhere, sometimes I wear gothic clothes although I'm definitely not into the gloom or the music, I just love the velvet, and sometimes I wear braids with bells in my hair). I'm a lot happier than when I tried to fit in, I no longer get bullied although I do get some strange looks :)

I love questions like that. I really do. Your response depends on what you'd like to accomplish.
"My psychiatrist says that I'm not to use the word crazy. It's 'Emotionally off balance'..." That usually gets people backing off, especially if you can say it with a smile and a far away look in your eyes.
"Everyone's crazy, they just don't admit it." Is a nice light way to brush it off.
"At least I know what my problem is. You don't seem to have a clue that you're rude." If you really want to let someone know that they're out of line.
Or a simple "All creative people are nuts. Have you ever heard of Van gogh or Poe? When my work is really famous you can say you knew me, and I'll only deny it in public." Smile and walk away.

Usually they don't ask, they just tell me LOL So I respond with the following:
"You're JUST figuring this out??"
or
"Tell me something I don't know"
or
"Why, thank you!"
If somone were to ask me, I'd say, "We're all a little crazy in our own ways"

I usually answer that yes, I am, what's it to ya? You don't need an excuse for being crazy.

Absolutely and I've never had so much fun!
No excuse...I'm just a nut and tell people the only nuts I like are people.

Yes, I am. But when they let me out of the hospital they gave me a piece of paper signed by a licensed psychiatrist saying I'm sane enough to be out in public. Where's yours?

seal says it best in his song..".we're never gonna survive unless we get a little crazy".
a little craziness keeps me from being predictable, allows me to have a sense of humor, and keeps me from sweating the small sutff or what i cannot control.

No, I'm just off my meds. What's your excuse?
I hope this doesn't come across as being too rude. I was thinking of a good comeback.

If someone asks that, always respond "But I dialed 12 last Tuesday!"

I would scream at them and start acting like a monkey. Then they could decide for themselves instead of asking that stupid question
