Select one of your music files, right click it then select open with, chose the program you usually used to play it. Then click the box saying "always use the selected program to open this kind of file"

There are a few ways to fix it. I would suggest closing the program and opening whatever one you used to play your music before. (Unless you just used the default Microsoft settings...if so this won't work). But if you used a different program, such as Real Player, when you open it up it will give you a notice that associations have been changed and ask if you approve. Click NO and they will change back.

If that doesn't work for whatever reason, open the new program you just installed and find the option for file associations. Deselect all the ones clicked and they will revert back to how you had them.

Now if that doesn't work you can literally go into your file associations and change them as I now see others have posted info for you to do. But that's more complicated if you aren't familiar with all this, and one of these should work. But if it doesn't please post the programs you are running and I can post exact details.

Of course you can always remove the program you installed, reboot and it may or may not revert back. Again there are many ways to do this but I don't want to overcomplicate it.

Last I would HIGHLY recommend you download a free program called WinPatrol. It will prevent something like this from ever happening in the future. Any time any program goes to change a setting it will ask you if that's ok. So this way if any changes are being made to your system you will alway know about it and the the option to just select No. It has other great features too...I wouldn't run a computer without it. It shows you all programs that run at startup (great way to see what may be hogging resources, or what added itself that you don't want there--and if you click disable it will remove it. You find you need or want it just click enable and it's back. SO easy). You can remove cookies....and well like I said lots of things and the free version does all I need. Check it out at http://www.winpatrol.com.

Good luck and don't panic!

If you're using Windows:

go to the file
right click
select 'Open With...'
choose the program that you want
check the box at the bottom that says 'Always use this program'
