I've been shopping around for a new car. Has anyone bought a NEW car from a Carmax dealer? How was your expirience?

I purchased a new 2003 Nissan Sentra from CarMax. Other than having to wait until Monday to pick up the car because my insurance agent was closed on a Saturday, the process was easy and straightforward. 18 months later, I sold the same car back to CarMax and received a fair amount for it.

It's easy to advertise cars on craigslist because it is free but you have to arrange for test drives with complete strangers. Maybe the extra $1,000 isn't worth the risk from a complete stranger meeting you somewhere, test driving your car and buying it.

I was under the impression that CARMAX did not sell "NEW" cars. I've only seen pre-owned.

Me and a friend went to take a look at a BMW a few months ago at Carmax, and there was a leak coming from the rear windshield. At the time I didn't have Carfax, so I didn't run a report on it but it was pretty obvious the car had probably been in an accident.

The salesman denied that.

No Sale.

Be careful.

CarMax is a great place to buy a new car. They do not play all the wierd add-on games like undercoating and security etching. In general, they are a very ethical company. However, do not sell your vehicle to them. You will get a lot more money for your current car selling it yourself through craig's list or on auto trader.

Carmax sells new cars and they are also no haggle pricing.

I actually think their new car prices are much better than their used car prices.
