I know. God loves his children except the Egyptians who pay with the blood of their children. It baffles me and it confuses me. God killed the firstborn son of every family. As if the son was guilty of what his people were doing. You're not going to get a good answer with this one because we Christians don't like to think about that. God was more like a ruthless General than a merciful creator in this passage.

On the surface, He did it so that Pharaoh would see that He was really God, and that He could kick butt anytime someone needed it. Deeper down, and as Jess pointed out, anybody who put the lamb's blood on the doorway was "covered" and would not suffer death. Today, it's still true - God's gonna do some smiting, and anybody who's willing to be covered by the blood of The Lamb will not die, but have everlasting life.
God smote the first born of all those homes in Egypt so YOU would hear today of the salvation available to you. Will you accept it? Or be like Pharaoh and perish?

WHY WAS MOSES PUT IN A BASKET AND PLACED IN THE NILE RIVER?
This Pharoah is out to hinder the progress God is obligated to for generation four at
Exo.6:16-23,26; Exo.7:7 [ Moses age 80 ]; 12:40,41 [ 430 years has been ]; Gal.3:16-18 [ Heirs get the law 430 years after Abraham gets Promised Land covenant ];
Do you think Pharoah will hinder the progress and obligation of God?
Do you think he can get by with orders to destroy the infant sons of Promised Land heirs?
Exo.1:15,16;
This is a risk to destroy God's plan for the seed from which Jesus may come from to be KING OF THE WORLD AT HIS SECOND COMING.
PHAROAH MADE HIS KINGDOM A TRESPASSER AGAINST GOD WHO OWNS ALL
God destroyed his economy, and his heirs and left him as destitute as the Promised Land heirs were under his Egypt Empire #1 of this world, there will be seven full, the 8th of the 7, will end to THE REIGN OF CHRIST, thus, the end of this world.

I didn't know that we were supposed to be waiting in anticaption to answer your questions immediately. My bad.
In answer to your question, God sent the plagues to Egypt to allow them to see that God was God and the idols they were worshipping were false, and that they were to release the Israelites from slavery. Nine times God did this and the Egyptians still would not forsake their idol worship, The striking down of every first born was their punishment for disobeying, but remember God did give them nine other chances to repent, and even then they did not repent.

That was the 10 plague God sent because the pharoah refused to free the Jews. He gave them plenty of warnings.by the way YOU LEFT OUT the fact that ANYONE WHO PUT THE LAMBS BLOOD OVER THE DOOR WAS SPARED FROM THE DEATH ANGEL. none of them had to die that was their choice. if yoU want to blame anyone blame the pharoah none of the plagues wouldve happened if he had set them free when Moses said to!

I guess you mean GOD so,he wanted Egypt to let his people go to the "promised land". Out from slavery. They didn't fear his wrath and kept refusing.

It was the forerunner to the game known as "mailbox baseball." He went out with a baseball bat one night and since mailboxes hadn't been invented yet, he started whacking people's kids.

Apparently, according to a secret informant, those Babies were little trysts of his. He had to hide the evidence, so that Jesus would feel special.
