You mean if there are cancer medications that are active orally. Yes there are, depending on the type of cancer, and in that case, the type of leukemia. Some leukemias are what is called 'chronic' and some are 'accute'. Accute means very aggressive and can kill very fast. Chronic means that it is slow developping.

For most accute leukemias, you need very aggressive therapies to save the patient's life. Usually that means the intravenous treatment which makes you hair fall off.

For chronic leukemias, depending on the patient's age, sometimes the best choice is to give no treatment at all. Just treat the symptoms. Sometimes a 'softer' option is also chosen to control the disease. For example you can give cortisone derivatives (orally active) to keep the immune system from destroying your own cells.

Yes. There are many different types of chemotherapy. Some is given intravenously and some is given in pill form. Chemo can also be given as a single agent or in various combinations to make it more effective in killing tumors. Chemo can also be given in high or low dosages depending on the patient and/or the type, stage, and grade of tumor involved.

My son starts a chemo protocol tomorrow that consists of a chemotherapy pill called Temodar in combination with intravenous Irinotecan. So, yes, there are chemotherapy pills . . and more are being developed as they can be conveniently administered as an outpatient.

yes, there are pill forms of chemotherapy or suppressive therapy. some are not as strong as others, so the person may not seem as though they are on chemo while they are.

When my mum had her chemo it was intravenously and also by pills after wards. Not all chemo causes the hair to fall. My mums hair never fell out, just thinned a little.
