Quick energy would be carbohydrates.

Carbohydrates are the ready energy, and they are used first before fats and proteins. Furthermore, if you are engaging in exercise where you cannot breathe (or not get enough oxygen per breath), then you only use carbohydrates, and 5 times as fast too. If you are engaging in exercise where you can breath (or get enough oxygen per breath), then you use fats and proteins, after you use up a sufficient amount of carbohydrates.

The reason being, is that to convert fat into usable energy, you need carbohydrates there to convert it! (If there are no carbohydrates, fats turn into ketones instead, which are toxic! They also yield less energy)

Carbohydrates are definitely the best source for quick energy. Particularly the simple carbohydrates--like sugars, fruit juices, etc. (These are different than the complex carbohydrates--like whole grains, fiber, etc.)This is because they need little digestion to get to glucose--the form of energy that your body metabolizes for energy.

Proteins are the most satiating nutrient, which means they can help you feel full for longer.

Foods high in Carbs are most likely to give you quick energy. However, if you eat them, be prepared for a crash later on if you don't stay up on carbs. And don't do this long-term, because it will only hurt you later when it comes to weight.

But yes, quick energy you go with carbs. Long term (results not immediate), it's a good idea to eat more proteins.

Whenever I eat pasta(high in carbs) my workout(the following day) is much more intense. Traditionally you're supposed to eat carbs for energy before your workout and foods high in protein after. foods high in protein help with rebuilding muscle tissue.
