The apprehension is MUCH worse than the procedure! You should ask to have nitrous oxide so that you will be pretty much unaware of what goes on. They might even consider general anesthetic if you are really panicked. I had all four of mine out on the same day. I was eating pretty much normally and was back to all my normal activities within two days. I did not ask for any pain killers outside of ibuprofen and they were enough to control what little bit of pain and discomfort there was. I did use an "old wives remedy" that may have explained my quick healing. If you dampen small tea bags and place them on the tooth socket, it speeds healing and controls bleeding through the tannic acid present in tea. It also cuts down on the swelling. ( That's why some people place tea bags on their eyes when they are swollen. )
p.s. my dentist did OK the tea bag remedy - but ask yours just in case.

The actual procedure goes kind of fast, maybe a half hour to 45 minutes tops. The healing period lasts a day to a day and a half, longer if your wisdoms were really bad. (bad placement, growing at weird angle)

About how to not freak out, I found that the best way is to think about the good things.

Like, you need this operation done, and you need it done as soon as possible... Also that a good portion of the world also had their teeth removed, or are going to get it removed and they won't have problems... And that you'll be one more of that happy crowd who didn't have problems :)

If you feel as though you need more, and if you haven't already you can have a nice chat with your dentist/doctor, or whoever it is removing those teeth... That always works. A simple truthful "I'm a little worried..." always gets things talking...

Good luck

I hear that, I was so scared when I got my wisdom teeth pulled out (+1 problem tooth) I went to a different clinic to get put under with gas, so I don't remember a thing from the surgery, but for me personally I think the procedure was around an hour (again I don't know cuz I wasn't "there") and the healing was pretty much a week or two, I was given antibiotics and pain killers. Everything I went through was tolerable.

I am a Dental Hygienist and have had experience in getting my 3rd molars removed. I had my teeth cut out which is harder than having them pulled and the procedure took about 20 minutes. That did not include that time that they used to numb/put me to sleep. I generally am easy to numb so it didn't take long for that. Then they tell you how to take care of yourself after the procedure which consists of not drinking through a straw, not smoking and other things. It takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour for the procedure and about 1-2 weeks to heal. Take it from me DO NOT eat a big meal before the procedure and eat many small meals after. The medicine that they will give you during and after the procedure may make you vomit if mixed with a full stomach.

Believe it or not, the procedure is fairly quick, you will not feel anything but mild pressure. You will have some discomfort for two days tops, just watch what you eat, on the second day gargle with salt water to prevent infection. If they give you an antibiotic be sure to take it. You need to stop focusing on the panic attack part of it, get it out of your mind, because you are going to make the experience worse. I would recommend closing your eyes the minute you sit in the chair, and sing your favorite song to yourself in your head. Sometimes seeing those tools they use brings about anxiety. You might even want to look into getting put to sleep first.

It took about an hour or two to remove four of mine. I dealt with the clostrophobic fear by having them know me out. It took about a week to heal. That was a great time to lose about ten pounds!

Don't freak out it will be alright. They will probably put you under anaesthesia to remove them. I just had 3 molars pulled with just a local anaesthetic with little discomfort. It's been 3 days and the sockets are pretty much healed. Good luck.
