Has anyone had or know anyone who has had this type of problem? I can find nothing about these symptoms. I get these excruciating cramps in the armpit area (for lack of a better term) and they seem to radiate around to the chest and sometimes the upper arm. Occaisionally down the back also. this has been going on off and on for several months. I've had my heart checked and the Chiroprator said to drink plenty of water and get more calcium. Of course this hasn't worked and the cramps are getting slowly worse and more numerous. I thought maybe a pinched nerve but I looked it up and it says nothing about cramps and the Doc/Chiro seem to blow me off when I mention it. I'm confused, does anyone know anything about this??

Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches).
Begin with a couple swigs of molasses or a couple of bananas daily - magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles).
Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago.

Now to the cause - muscles - your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain.

The cure - start with a professional massage, you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. The place where the skull connects to the spine press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles).

For more information read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches what to do and where the pain comes from.

There is a muscle that runs from the side of your ribcage, up through the underarm and then down a little on the underside of the upper arm (latissimus dorsi). You are most likely getting cramps or spasms in those. If you get frequent cramps or charley horses, then you probably have a mineral deficiency in one of the variants in your levels of calcium/magnesium/vitamin D, which all work together to control the electrical signals sent over your nerves to muscles. Some say to take calcium for charley horses and cramping, but calcium alone won't work if you are deficient in magnesium or Vitamin D. I take a high potency magnesium supplement (500 mg) twice a day, and a calcium supplement with vitamin D included. Do not exceed that dosage of magnesium.. You should also take a Vitamin C daily (1000 mg), because it makes magnesium work better. This treatment works fairly quickly (like in a few days). However, when I stop the magnesium, the cramping starts up again within two weeks.

Mine feels like a charlie horse mostly in the ribs but also the upper arm but not in the armpit. Happened when running too fast playing tennis and when I jumped a short distance(2 feet onto soft ground). Both times it s very painful and totally gone in 10min s. Suspected it was spine related but a lot of talk about it being local cramps related to hydration and more importantly(so I read) shallow breathing(i ll try deeper breathing next time).

I have cramping too on the left near the armpit and recently it is occurring on the right. None of the answers above are helpful. This is almost into the armpit, not the back.

This could be because of muscle fatigue or dehydration. Try exercising all parts of your body. It also sometimes is due to disuse atrophy. Try out some home remedies. You can also look for information in the web that give you home remedies. I found this website very useful. http://aches.in/cramps.html

I have this same problem, and have no clue what it is either. I just wanted to respond and let you know that you aren't alone.
