I think Job 31:11-12 (NLT) sums up lust quite nicely, "For lust is a shameful sin, a crime that should be punished. It is a devastating fire that destroys to hell. It would wipe out everything I own." Just think about the definition of lust: 1) Intense or unrestrained sexual craving, or 2) An overwhelming desire or craving (Source: The American Heritage Dictionary). Now try and reconcile this definition with verses such as Exodus 20:14, 17 (NLT), "Do not commit adultery. . . Do not covet your neighbor’s house. Do not covet your neighbor’s wife, male or female servant, ox or donkey, or anything else your neighbor owns," or Matthew 5:28, "But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust in his eye has already committed adultery with her in his heart."
Lust is a focus on pleasing oneself, and often leads to unwholesome actions to fulfill one's desires with no regard to the consequences. Lust is about possession and greed. The Christian faith is about selflessness, and is marked by holy living (Romans 6:19, 12:1-2; 1 Corinthians 1:2, 30, 6:19-20; Ephesians 1:4, 4:24; Colossians 3:12; 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8, 5:23; 2 Timothy 1:9; Hebrews 12:14; 1 Peter 1:15-16). The goal of each person who has put his/her faith in Jesus Christ is to become more and more like Him each day. This means putting off the old way of life, of which sin was in control, and conforming one's thoughts and actions to the standard put forth in Scripture. Lust is in opposition to this ideal.
Nobody will ever be perfect, or attain sinlessness while still on this earth, yet it is still a goal for which we strive. The Bible makes a very strong statement regarding this in 1 Thessalonians 4:7-8, "God has called us to be holy, not to live impure lives. Anyone who refuses to live by these rules is not disobeying human rules but is rejecting God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you." If lust has not yet gripped your heart and mind, ready yourself through a life lived above reproach to combat the temptations of lust. If you currently struggle with lust, it is time to come clean before God and ask for His intervention in your life, so that holiness can be a mark of your life as well.

I do not know; but what comes to mind the disrespect for another persons mind, and just focusing on physical pleasures to the exclusion of feelings.
Loosing control to the point of hurting another just to insure you are happy physically.
If a man/woman walks by and distracts you in prayer or say an operation like defusing a bomb, and you day- dream of being with them, you may forget what your doing and - that is why mini skirts cause car accidents in TV comedies - you remember? Need a ride? passions arise and a lot of cars will stop for you. Need your pool cleaned? Same thing. Passion to the exclusion of common sense, or the feeling of loved ones - because everyone gets caught that cheats. (Cheating is adultery and I think is #6, 7? no no?)

The word 'lust' originally had nothing to do with sex. In German, it means 'pleasure', so in English 'lust' came to mean strong pleasure or joy in life, and someone who was 'lusty' was simply one who enjoyed life. In fact, the German translation for Shakespeare's 'The Merry Wives of Windsor' is 'Die Lustige Weiber von Windsor'. Only fairly recently has 'lust' come to refer only to sexual pleasure, which is not a sin (except, perhaps, in the eyes of people who don't enjoy it). In my humble opinion, the 'sin' comes through lack of self-control and overindulging one's desires without regard to anyone else's feelings. (Ex. Giacomo Casanova)

It is the urge to want to have sex with something you do not "possess" (like a neighbor's wife). It is a sin because it is in the commandments under adultry, and that it weakens you as a person to want something that bad. And then thats when the demons come in and mentally eff with you.

The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: It is lust only, Arjuna, which is born of contact with the material mode of passion and later transformed into wrath, and which is the all-devouring sinful enemy of this world.
PURPORT
When a living entity comes in contact with the material creation, his eternal love for Krishna is transformed into lust, in association with the mode of passion. Or, in other words, the sense of love of God becomes transformed into lust, as milk in contact with sour tamarind is transformed into yogurt. Then again, when lust is unsatisfied, it turns into wrath; wrath is transformed into illusion, and illusion continues the material existence. Therefore, lust is the greatest enemy of the living entity, and it is lust only which induces the pure living entity to remain entangled in the material world. Wrath is the manifestation of the mode of ignorance; these modes exhibit themselves as wrath and other corollaries. If, therefore, the mode of passion, instead of being degraded into the mode of ignorance, is elevated to the mode of goodness by the prescribed method of living and acting, then one can be saved from the degradation of wrath by spiritual attachment.
The Supreme Personality of Godhead expanded Himself into many for His ever-increasing spiritual bliss, and the living entities are parts and parcels of this spiritual bliss. They also have partial independence, but by misuse of their independence, when the service attitude is transformed into the propensity for sense enjoyment, they come under the sway of lust. This material creation is created by the Lord to give facility to the conditioned souls to fulfill these lustful propensities, and when completely baffled by prolonged lustful activities, the living entities begin to inquire about their real position.
