The town is safe.
The people who live in it, however, are another matter entirely.

Hi Lauren, you sent me a message asking if parents should let little children go to the mall alone with out an adult, in a group. And If they misbehave, just let them suffer the consequences.
My answer is no. There is a difference in young children and older children. The young ones (5-11 ) are not mature enough to not talk to or go with strangers, not to get lost, or to be trusted with money. They most definitely need parental supervision.
No matter how safe you believe that your town is, I can assure you that there are bad people out there in every town looking for children who are not protected by their parents even if they don't live in your town.
Older kids (teenagers) need to gradually be trusted to handle these things. There comes a time, when children are growing up, that the parents have to start to cut the apron stings and let them learn to grow up according to their maturity and suffer the consequences if they mess up, or the rewards of more trust, if they do good

No town is safe from pedophiles. Children at 5-11 should not be left to monitor themselves at the mall or even at home. It is much too young. If you've ever read the papers or true crime magazines and books...most of the time...it will say "we never thought it could happen here, or to us...this happens to other people, not us." It's always better to safe than sorry.

My town is very safe but its the people who u need to be careful of . I do let my kids go in groups only but we have daily conversations on safety and predators. They have been much more observant than I am at times......... My children are older!!!!5 to 11 is quite young to walk farther than the neigborhood... the mall is off limits!!!!!!!!!

Someone who is out there that hurt children may not be from your town. There are a lot of bad people in our world to day. There is no safe place.

my town is safe, but i can't say that i'd let my children that young go to the mall or places alone. sure they could walk down the street to a friends house, or the park or something, but you know i'd still be watching them to make sure they are safe!
