Depending where you going, if you are planing to travel by air you would need a passport(not expired) and your green card, if you just going to Mexico (not flying) you dont need passport just your green card but after Jan 2008, no matter how you travel or where you going you will need both. NOT EXPIRED!, good luck.

You cannot travel anywhere by air without a valid passport. If you are travelling by vehicle, a Green Card is all you need to enter/re-enter Canada or Mexico.

no, you need new passport, and green card is needed only to get in to US. not exporting
