I loved Turkey...what a wonderful country... and fantastic history too.
I took the FezBus 'hop-on, hop-off' tour for a month a few years ago as part of a 3 month trip around Greece, Turkey, and the Balkans...
Here is where I went to (starting and finishing in Istanbul):
* Gallipoli (Eceabat) - TJs TOURS & HOSTEL (link below)
* Pergamon & Troy
* Kusadasi & Selcuk
* Ephasus & Marmoris
* Koycegiz
* Saklikent Gorge
* Fethiye/Oludeniz - where they filmed 'The Blue Lagoon' !
- then a 4 day gulet cruise around the islands to Olympos
* Olympos (Tree Houses on the beach)
* Egirdir, via Lake Golbasi
* Cappadocia (that's the place for a balloon flight!) - here you can see the underground cities where the Christians hid from the Romans...
For the Gallipoli battlefield tour, I recommend you stay at TJ's Hostel in Eceabat, and ask for the tour of the battlefields with Kenan - he is a world renowned historian, and authority on the Gallipoli Campaign.
It was an amazing journey ... I highly recommend it...and you can do a trip like that in 3 weeks no trouble on a budget... I stayed at hostels that were clean and comfortable, and they only cost about £5 (€8 euros) a night and the bus tour (from place to place in air-con bus) is around £135 GBP or €200 Euros!
Happy Trails

Been there many times - lovely country - really friendly people especially to families.
Lots of historical sites to see like Troy and Ephesus
Beautiful beaches like Olu Deniz and Patara
ome natural wonders like Pammukale and Cappodocia
downside =some turkish men do try their luck with women tourists especially those who are scantliy clad.
Best holiday places Dalyan, Kusadasi, Bodrum, Fethiye, Kalkan, Antalya to name a few

Yes i have been and would never go again. I was heavily pregnant and all the turkish men kept wanting to touch me which frightened me and i found rather rude. Travelled while i was there and was even followed into public toilets by a man. Turkey is not for me.

well I have been there 3 times!
But I ll go more, If I can! I want to see as much places as it is possible
People are like us ( I am Greek) and as long as I stay away from Islamists and Fanatics (and they stay away from me too :) ) I have no fear and no problem at all ;))
The bad thing is that I can take many days off from my work to do so :(
See you somewhere in Turkiye
