I want to know what some of you think or have to say about this & if your going to answer with something rude, PLEASE....do NOT bother answering at all. I am looking for smart, intellegent answers.

Thank you.

***UPDATE***

I understand when some of you say they like to save the jobs for the locals, I use to work for this one company & the boss told me when they do offer the jobs to locals, they end up getting the offer withdrawn because the locals can't pass a simple drug test. So....that's not our fault, but if these locals can't pass these drug test, then why do you think they still keep saving the jobs for them, hoping they will pass it next time around? It's stupid. My point is....it shouldn't matter where you come from -local or not. If your qualified for the job, you got the experience & you pass your background check, then you should be good to go! not "we can't hire you because your a foreigner." It's considered racism when they do that.

The people who live in Hawaii do not like foreginers to come in and work there, thinking they will take over the beautiful Hawaiian Islands. So they do there best to not let foreginers get jobs there. The best way to find a job in Hawaii is to work with a agency, temp or permanent. They offer the better jobs, and also if you work in the tourist field that is to your benefit too! Best Wishes and Happy job hunting in Hawaii!

As others have said, Many locals, mostly the Native Hawaiians, don't like haole (foreigners) working here, because they feel that they will take all the jobs and the land. The issue dates back to when the Kingdom of Hawaii was overthrown and annexed by the United States. Some people are still upset about the situation and see the Haole as the enemy. Hawaii's unemployment rate is the lowest in the country. We don't need more workers. I suggest you work for an agency.

Lots of people come here (Hawaii) on vacation and think, "Oh, it's so beautiful! I'd love to live here!" Then they make plans to move and try to secure jobs, but local employers have found that, by and large, many of these people end up not showing up. They suddenly realize that Hawaii is the most isolated island chain on earth and don't want to be that far from family and friends...or they realized how high the cost of living is here compared to wages, and they rethink their decision to move. Too many employers have had bad luck offering jobs to people who never show up for work (because they haven't actually yet MOVED to the islands!) that they try to offer jobs to locals first. Another reason is that many people who do actually make the move over here only stay a year or so (this is very common for teachers from the mainland) and the employers don't want to waste their time training in new employees only to have to repeat the process in a few months. Hawaii's unemployment rate is the lowest in the country, so we don't NEED to seek out mainlanders to come over here and fill job positions! If you really want to move here, secure a local address first and then seek out a job. You're much more likely to be hired if you have a local address (this does not apply to P.O. boxes).

BTW, "locals" are people who live in Hawaii. Not all are necessarily native Hawaiians.

I come from Newfoundland, an island in canada, so we have a similar situation. There are only so many jobs availible on the island, just like Hawaii giving jobs to local people when it's possible allows people to stay in their homes and with their familys. Every job given to someone that isn't from Newfoundland means another person that has to leave their home to find work. Because of the collapse in the fishery there's a huge unemployment rate in Newfoundland and it's litterally bleeding people moving away to find jobs to support their familys, as a result Wages are lower because they know people will work for less to stay in their homes. My father (a tradesman) could easily make double even tripple his annual salary if he moved away from there, because there are so many people who need work ready to take his job should he leave.
I imagine It's similar in Hawaii, if mainlanders get the jobs, there are fewer jobs for locals, and many could be forced to leave their homes to support their familys.

I spent most of my life in Hawaii and that is so not true. My fiance is from Georgia and had no problem finding a good paying job. I also knew a lot of military spouses that had no probelm getting jobs also. Perhaps it's your shitty attitude for your reason to not being able to get a job there. And for you to tell us not to answer rude? hah! Look at all of your answers.

I think that the state is too small to have people move there to work....there are already too many tourists and the state is overpopulated so i think they're trying to prevent people from living there by the cost of living being so high.

The locals consider it their own little country and do not want foreigners.
