Like migrant working,if the jobs suddenly became available due to deportation, for the same pay the migrant workers are getting now?

No one would do it for the same pay, which is a huge part of the problem. Pay for farmers (and construction workers etc) has dropped dramatically since the flood of illegal immigration increased to current levels. That is why Cesar Chavez was so violently against illegal immigration. It undermines the living wage for workers.

Then on top of that, it ruins our schools.

I'd much rather pay the money in straight subsidies to farmers to pay legal workers more. I'd save it in taxes to subsidize their workers through social service programs, in any event.

Moody, funny you should raise that. In 1977 California had an education system that was held up to the country as an example, and almost 90% of Californians graduating from high school went on to higher education.

Now over 60% of students in LA drop out before graduating from high school, the schools are on year round schedules (as they weren't in 1977) our teachers teach on emergency certificates (as they didn't in 1977) and gifted programs, PE, music and language classes which were standard in our schools in 1977 have been cut from the schools to pay for ESL programs and ESL targetted support programs. With the continued failure of the ESL demographic to improve, they are starting a new round of meetings to see what else they can do, besides assigned tutors and counselors, family intervention, ESL classes, remedial classes, test tutoring, etc that they already offer. Since I have heard of no plan to increase the education budget, that too will come from our children's education funds.

Look it up, I am not exagerating, but you won't believe it unless you find the information for yourself.

I HAVE done those jobs. It doesn't just stop at picking crops either! They are developing crop pickers that will pick even strawberries and in a bout 5 to 10 years they will be using those and not paying illegal aliens anything. Not only that, but the illegal aliens are taking the skilled labor jobs which America today was made on.

Perfect example...after Katrina there were a bunch of AMERICANS who were cleaning up after the storm...then after two weeks they let all those people go and said that the ILLEGAL ALIENS were there to finish the job at a fraction of the cost.

As far as the jobs that illegal aliens do which I HAVE done is I was a dishwasher a couple of different times throughout my life going through college and such. I have also been a CNA which, from what I understand is now being driven by illegal aliens in certain instances. You think this helps the US when there aren't jobs for the AMERICANS here?

This question has been asked to death on here. Why do people keep asking it? You get the same answers every time!

Yes, Americans will do these jobs but not at slave labor wages, of course! These wages have been illegally reduced because of employers hiring illegal workers.

As to the higher cost of living in Hawaii - I would say that is mosly because EVERYTHING has to be imported to Hawaii, so things are more expensive because of the costs related to shipping.

I live in BC, Canada and we have very little illegal immigration here, yet we have agriculture, construction, fast food places, restaurants, lawns to mow, children to be babysat, houses to be cleaned, etc. and I can tell you that the cost of our food and products is very similar to the costs in the USA, despite the exchange on the dollar. Therefore, don't try to say that without illegal immigrants, the costs of food and products would skyrocket in the US, because that is BS. Canadians and legal immigrants do these jobs in Canada - students, senior citizens and stay-at-home moms who like to work part-time. Also, not everyone becomes a college or university graduate and so there are always people who want physical or low-skilled jobs. Less educated people can make a good living in landscaping businesses, construction, factories, etc. Illegal immigrants are NOT providing a service to the country - they are always a net drain on a country. Legal immigrants are almost always a net benefit to a country. I have no problem with legal immigrants - ever. Illegal immigrants are takers, serving themselves, only. People who hire illegal immigrants are shamefully taking advantage of an already disadvantaged people; they are not helping them. Employers of illegal immigrants are fattening their own wallets, not passing on savings to consumers. Don't kid yourself!

Many Americans have done those jobs, and would continue to do them for a decent living wage. America was completely functional before the illegals arrived, and it will be functional after they are deported.

IIllegals work in the service industry - This is what I did while I was in college - housekeeping, banquet service, room service, inventory, dishwashing in hotels and restaraunts. I used to work in call centers that are now primarily staffed with bilingual anchor babies. My first job was in fast food, as it was for many teenage Americans back in the day.

Illegals work in Warehouse/Industrial jobs - Jobs that were once great paying steady jobs. I used to work for two manufacturing companies doing assembly and packaging.

My brother in law used to have a successful building contractor business with American workers, he had to switch careers because he was tired of being outbid by competitors with cheap day laborers.

I don't need an illegal to cut my grass, and trim my hedges that's what husbands and sons are for. ;-)

I've heard this question asked many times when it came to the (illegal)immigration debate. My answer is this...have you ever been to Hawaii? The reason I ask is that there are very few-if any illegal immigrants there and yet they somehow find people to flip burgers, clean toilets and scrub floors. Yes they pay more, but the cost of living is outrageous there too.

If you are talking about the fruit and vegetable industries, we could have America's do it, and I think there are people who would gladly take these jobs, but they would have to pay higher wages and provide better work environments. This in turn would skyrocket the cost of these goods.

DAR is right, we need to subsidize the farmers so they can afford to pay Americans to do the job!

Honestly? Less than 2% of illegals are employed in agriculture. More than 50% have displaced journeyman tradesman in the home construction field, working for a third of standard wages. Illegals are also responsible for a 45% jump in the crime rate. This percentage is even higher in border states. Additionally, illegals have been linked to the murders of more than 48,000 Americans since 9 / 11. Something to consider the next time you put lettuce on your hamburger!

We have laws to protect our citizens. The employers of illegals thumb their noses at the law in two ways: by hiring illegals and paying illegal wages. The illegals can manage nicely on these wages if they have no other expenses. The ones that the citizens pay for them. But just in case you hadn't noticed, illegals are taking jobs that many citizens would be proud to have if they could get them. And they are driving down wages in these jobs too. Those of you who feel so superior and safe might want to take notice. They WILL be after your job next. And they'll probably get it too. Have you learned Spanish yet?

In California and Nevad they have takenover the trades such as plumbing carpentry anything to do with building. It has lowered the standard of living and my guess is you probably live in the east some place where you are insulated from the real serious issue. Also a huge percentage of violent crimes are commited by illegales. The 13 year old boy abducted in florida was kidnaped bound and left for dead in a wooded area. This would not have happened if we had secured our borders.

Unfortunately the illegals are no longer just picking fruits and vegetables they are taking construction jobs, restaurant jobs etc.. many of them are getting savvy and picky as to how much pay they want. I for one will never hire one that is why we are being overrun if people would quit hiring them they would go home so shame on all the tight wads that are hiring them you are the ones responsible for the mass exodus into the united states that is ruining our country.
