In my Sociology class we were taught that Blacks in America were the most Christian at 91% while with Hispanics close behind at 87% and whites way down at 60%. The teacher mentioned many blacks have converted to Islam but didn't say how many or what percentage. Most I've known have been Southern Baptist. I hear many convert because they see it as an African religion but since most Subsaharan Africans are either Christian or animist I don't really understand.

Interesting that both of you think I should use your terminology even though I'm not Muslim. Ain't gonna happen. If they were Christian and switched to Islam they CONVERTED. Your assuming that everybody was born Muslim but that like your religion is false.

A plurality of Muslims in America are black. 42% in fact. I am not sure how many converted and how many were raised Muslim, but in 2001, 42% of Muslims in the U.S. are black (vs. 12% Arab). From the ARIS we know that there were about 1,104,000 Muslims in the U.S. in 2001, so roughly 460,000 black people in this country were Muslim at that time. There were about 12 million black people in the country then, so about 4%? Maybe more now.

When I reverted back to Islam, it was because I hated the concept of that blond-haired-male-Caucasian hanging on the wall of the woman that raised me. I saw practicing Islam as a way of expressing Africa-American pride, without ending up in the sights of the police revolver. Then I discovered God is to be worshipped in Spirit and in Truth, so I reverted back to Christianity. This is a very dangerous time for Black Muslims in America. This type of rhetoric from Trump will give the uneducated, hate filled white citizens the excuse they've been looking for to snuff out African-American lives. "GOD PLEASE HELP THIS NATION TO HEAL INSTEAD OF REPEATED IGNORANCE"!

NO, one converts to islam.
They revert back to islam.
I onl know that about 300 to 500. People revert back to islam everyday, in the USA.

firstly its not convert its called revert the reason for this is because we all were born as Muslims as for the % i dint know but i am sure its around 99%
