Maybe your mother doesn't feel like having another dog around the house to feed clean up after.

first of all.
the people who've already answered this question are idiots.
minus Tazwell good post Tazwell.
dont listen to them though.
all dogs have the ability to be aggressive and even deadly.
these people probably know nothing of the breed
and probably only know what other people have heard/told them.
their information is unrealiable.
Pit Bulls are amazing dogs when in the hands of responsible
and knowledgable owners.
Pit bulls are really no different than any other dog.
i guess only a slight difference is that pit bulls require a firm leader.
Plus they're goof balls. <3

I have always wanted to have more than one dog, but in this case you already have 3. How old are you? You dont need four. I see you already have guardian type breeds so im sure you can handle a pit bull. The point is at this point im sure your mom is right about not getting another dog because of the added responsibility but not about the fact that pits are vicious. She probably has never gotten to know a pit either. But if you really do want one that bad, i suggest you do some research on this breed. it will do you TONS of good. read up on every aspect of the breed: how it all started, whta they were bred for, why they were bred for it, how it used to be the most popular dog for a lonnnngg time in the US, who owns pit bulls why they own them celebrities that own them. their conformation a few different lines how many are in shelters and how you can help. find pit bull sites that promote the breed.
show her pictures of pit bulls with children, elderly, handicapped, show her pit bull service dogs show her pit bulls with other animals like other dogs cats birds ducks rabbits what ever. try to educate her on the breed. see if you know someone with a pit.. get info from them as well. and if its possible kennel or leave your other dogs out side and introduce a pit bull to your mother. im sure she'd get licks and kisses and maybe just maybe she'll change her mind about pit bulls. but there's so much negativty and closemindedness about this breed it can be hard to change some minds about this.

all in all i do not think you need another dog regardless of the breed. but good luck in your pursuit.

Pits are great dogs in the right hands. As long as you take care of them, properly train them as you would any other dog, and love them you won't have a problem. Don't believe all the myths about Pits.

It seems you already have experience with working breeds, hence the rottie and shepherd, so I assume it wouldn't be a problem for you. But opinions like that are hard to break, so I don't think you'd have great luck in that one...

Show her great websites about pit bulls, and introduce her to Pits in shelters and pet stores and where ever else you can, to show her that they're not vicious like rumors tell.

If you can't convince her, you already have 3 great dogs. Concentrate on them for now, and wait until you live on your own :)

*edited to add* I don't know the rules on "bashing" other users, but CalebsMom, that puppy was 6 weeks old, too young to be away from it's mother in the first place, and the puppy was TEETHING, and left unattended with an infant while it's parents slept. It teethed on a squirming baby's toes, for lack of better toys. How could it know better? That is hardly aggression.

The best I can tell you is to show her that you are responsible around the house and such. Start by maintaining a clean room, and maybe wash the dishes the first time she asks you not the 8th, I do the latter and it really doesn't help the cause. Whatever you do DON'T BEG HER! That always gets my mom mad and even if she was considering it before then she probably won't anymore 'cause she may think you aren't mature enough. Also, I would suggest that you make sure if you get a pitbull pup you get one that is already trained to not be viscious.

Your mom does have a point; Pit bulls do have a tendency to be mean. Maybe you should consider a pit bull mix. But if you really have your heart set on a pit, try doing some research on the breed, and showing it to your mom. Your mom is much more likely to listen to you if you have facts to back it up. And when you ask, don't whine. That will only make her less likely to listen to you. You also might want to see if anyone in your area can train the dog so it won't attack you or your family. Good luck with your mom!

I love dogs & have had friends with Pit Bulls. The dogs were great untill they fliped & practicaly bit my friends face off. They cant be trusted but if you really want one you'll have to wait untill you're out on you're own & then watch the dog like a hawk. Especialy around kids.Pit bulls are a big responsibility.

My brother has a female pitbull. She's a very sweet dog. He's got a baby too. No problems. You should do some research into pitbulls and present some hard data to your mom. Rottweillers are meaner than pitbulls by the way. It's all a matter of training the dog anyway.

your mother is right , in ontario canada we have a ban on them . they are too dangerous. you have two dogs that is enough. a pit bull is not a smart dog like the ones you have it is bred to attack and kill other dogs and children is that what you want. if that happens your parents could end up homless and you could end up paying money for the rest of your life. dont get a pit bull
