what you feel
about him--
---
but really anything you want.
ok there are two basic styles of love poems.
the style which tells a story
one stanza por ejemplo:
...
and we sat like that, in that gentle embrace;
holding each other close,
your head on my shoulder,
whispering words of comfort to each other,
until presently, with the coming of the night,
we slept together, in the soft grass, and the cool night air,
my coat covering us.
...

the second style is more minimalist:
another example of uh 2 stanzas:
...
snow, falling
warmth fills me
a feeling of waiting
of looking for something

snow, falling
it makes me want to be with you
bundled up--maybe by a window
sitting, watching its mesmerizing dance
with you.
[end]

both of these are love poems in some way--- the second one was a birthday present to a close female friend. the first one to my best-friend/ ex-girlfriend.

you don't have to meter-- but you can if you want.
both of these are in free verse-- the second one is a long series of four-line stanzas with intermittent five line stanzas for effect. every stanza began with the phrase: "snow, falling:"
and avoid full-end-rhyme please PLEASE!!! I beg of you!
couplets are fine--- so long as it's a soft rhyme not a hard rhyme.
and be careful of endstops.

the beauty of poetry is that it comes from the heart and it is TRUE. like any piece of art or music or movies....the beauty of it is that the feelings are somewhat universal and speak to humanity. Passion, tension, love, emotion.

try to find the words that describe how you really feel.

If you cant find the words you should not be ashamed to find a poem that another has written and give that poem to him. The idea is that you have found a poem that communicates what you feel...and the fact is that there have been so many wonderful poems written. Give credit to the author and never steal another persons poem and claim it as your own. Best wishes.

You should write what you are feeling. There is no set standard for how to write a love poem other then the fact that it should come from the heart! Put your emotions to words.

If the guy likes you, you shouldn't need a poem!

Don't fake anything. Be open with your feelings. If it's not in your nature to write crazy methaphors and word play in your poems that's OK!

Anything and everything. Guys like to know they are appreciated. Tell him how you like everything about him. Tell him you accept him as a whole, the good AND the bad. Tell him you need him, that he lights up your life. Tell him that he means a lot to you. Tell him you think about him all the time, or tell him that you love his touch or the way he smells or his eyes or his laugh. You tell him how you feel. You can't really go wrong if you do that. Guys are different in the way that as long as you tell them that you love them or appreciate them, it doesn't really matter how you say it. But, it doesn't hurt to get romantic or creative. Good luck!

I will wait for you on those
Sheep-scattered shores
Waiting for the sea bird's cry
To be driven inward by the storm.

My fireside will await
The wonder of your presence
That brings mirth and peace
To the hearth fire of my love.
