I wore a back brace for scoliosis for 3 years as a teenager, and although heartburn, per se, is not "normal," it is common when you are wearing the brace because the brace is pressing on your abdomen and not letting it expand to the extent you are used to when your food goes into your stomach. Definitely talk to your doctor about it just to make sure he/she knows everything that's going on with you, but try not to worry about it too much. One of the things that I found helped with my brace-induced heartburn was to eat smaller meals, more often. That way, my stomach didn't try to expand as much at each meal, and I didn't get that uncomfortable feeling from having my food squished back up my esophagus.

Hope this helps!

There's nothing normal about new symptoms. I don't know how you were braced. But, if the brace is pressing you in certain way that it is effecting your visceral function, then it's definitely a concern. Long term effects may be more serious. You may want to talk to your orthotist who fitted your brace and see if alteration can be made.

If alteration is not possible with that particular type of brace, you might want to try another type of brace. Check out http://www.myscoliosis.net

Try Malox + . If that doesn't help I'd see a doc.
