Yes, the average basset is very easy going and laid back. They're a great choice for young kids for that reason, as well as the enormous patience they have. However, like any other dog, you shouldn't leave them unsupervised with a very young child and you need to teach the child how to treat a dog.

Bassets are very lazy dogs therefore tend to be grumpy when hassled. On the other hand are also very playfull dogs within the confines of the house but dont react well to over stimulation. It totally depends upon the age and individual temprement of the dog in question.

I don't think any dog would want to be around a 2 year old, they don't know enough not to pull at it or take things away from it, they are just to young to be around any dog or cat.

yes they are.
my sister is 2 years old and we have a basset
they are so gentle around kids, and children alike,
they don't try to hurt anyone, but they get scared of EVERYTHING
and jump around.
they love to play, and are not actually lazy.

good luck deciding!

Wait till your kid is a bit older and can learn how to treat a dog.

If you get the dog as a puppy-yes. As an adult, no.
