I admit to being clueless when it comes to the equipment aspect of photography...
I am considering switching from film SLR to digital SLR. My question is in regards to lenses. I have over $3000 in lenses...telephoto, wide angle, etc. I have heard that you can use lenses interchangebly between film and digital cameras...given they are the same manufacturer or course (I use Canon). Is this true? I would hate to buy all new lenses if I choose to purchase a digital SLR.
Thanks!

If all your lenses are Canon EF lens you can use them on any Digital SLR 300d ,350d 400d ,10d ,20d 30d , 5d & 1 d .
If all your lenses are FD you will not be able to use them .

It depends on the make and model of camera and lenses you're using, although if you have $3,000 worth - they're presumably high end lenses. This may make them more likely to be interchangeable with the Canon Digital SLR lenses. They're unlikely to have the necessary connections to utilise all of the digital camera functions, but should be capable of working the basics.

Your best bet is to take some or all of them to a reputable camera dealer and try them out on a digital body. For that level of money they'll let you make certain of it - as you'd clearly mean business in their eyes.

If you haven't already considered it, you should also look into the quality of digital compression and resolution with the camera you're looking to buy - as Canon make a range of digital SLRs, with the quality sadly tending to improve relative with price.

As said previously, if you have the EF lenses they will work. However, a few Canon cameras (the Rebel line) have smaller image sensors than a normal 35mm frame. Your focal length will change by 1.6 if used on these cameras. A 28mm lens would be like a 44.8mm and so on. The higher end cameras have full frame sensors and will not have this change.

If its an EF mount then yes. If not your out of luck. I with the 1.6x cropping factor youll lose your wide angleness on the Rebel series and the 30D series. The cropping factor will give your pictures a more telephoto view of things. Its great if you use a lot of telephoto but bad if your trying to get wide angles.

If you have Canon Manual focus lens you are S O L. Canon being the best camera manufacture in the world (according to some people on there) could not figure out how to keep the same lens mount when they went to auto focus camera, Nikon figure it out.
