1. Tell your parents...that you would like to go out to work and buy your own computer because your brother is making a big deal out of this thing.....

2. Tell your Mom, you need her help...and tell the problem...if she is not going to do anything about it, then you really are being mistreated, but I do not think So, the trick is do not ask your Mom in front of your brother....as that will cause confrontation....

I don't know how old you and your brother are but perhaps it's time to have mom and dad mediate for you. By assigning useage times for your brother and yourself you may be able to work through this situation.

For example, if there is a time that you both do homework, i.e. right after school...one day you get the computer while he does his homework...then he gets it while you are doing yours. The next day he gets the computer first then you. If neither of you have homework...still keep the schedule as tho you did. This should give each of you at least 45 mins to an hour right after school.

Then (again don't know what the night rituals are but...) in the evening, your brother gets the computer for an hour before he hits bed...you get it for an hour before you hit bed. If his bedtime is 10 pm, then you get the computer from 8-9, he gets it from 9-10

If there is any excess cash to eventually purchase a computer for you...that would probably be the best solution all round...then you only have to worry about him not wanting to help you if your system crashes or can't get on the net etc. But...if he doesn't help you in those situations, then your parents lock down his computer until he has yours fixed for you...thus he will be down as long as you are (that one works in our house and we have 7 computers on a network. Our oldest is responsible for keeping it online so if it goes down for anyone, he either gets them up and running again (he has 2 hours to do that) or his system is locked down until he is able to. When the problem is more involved than he can or wants to handle my husband usually ensures everything is back up quickly.

Co-operation is the only way a family with one computer can actually operate properly...work out a schedule that is fair...if you and your brother can do it together without mom and dad...fine. If not, have mom and dad get involved.

Good luck

Talk to your parents about moving it somewhere else or setting up a schedule for when you can use it so the two of you don't have to argue about it. That really isn't fair. Maybe you could have it in your room for 3 months and then switch for 3 to see how he likes that. haha. Talk to your parents because if they have any siblings, they know how sibs are and as far as parents go - they usually want as little drama and arguing in the house as possible.

Some good advice from the answers here! Speak to your parents. They have to set the guidelines for the two of you.
Your brother may have his OWN room, and he may rightfully feel that it is his territory. However, he has COMMUNITY property in his room so it becomes public accessible. AND here is the BIG one. It is NOT his house. It belongs to your parents... their ruless.

tell your parents. a computer shouldn't be in a kids room anyway. it should be in an area where your parents can keep an eye on you.

that got the computer out of the boys room and into a central area. schedules were established. the girls were younger and went to bed earlier, so they had first dibs.

ask your parents if the computer could be moved to a different spot in the house so you both don't have to ask to use it
