Your answer is "yes". Even though you are the only "male" child of the family you still have to sign up. You will probably not serve in the military since you are the "only child" but you are required to sign up regardless when you reach the age of 18. Also, since you have lost the document that is required, stop by your local post office and they can assist you with another form if I'm not mistaken. And to answer your other question...yes you could possibly get in trouble for not signing up so if I were you, I'd rather be safe than sorry and just sign up.

By law ALL males between the appropriate age are required to register with the Selective Service. Any exemptions that you may want to apply for occur after you register. Can you get in trouble? Possibly. The best thing to do is go down to the US Post Office and register.
Also you need to read the Sole Surviving Son Act. It basically says that you can still be drafted (if the draft is ever reinstated) so you must still register. During the Viet Nam War my draft number was 14. I am the only son in my family and they had no trouble calling me up.

Y E S, all American males must sign up for Selective Service at age 18 years old. You can get in trouble by not signing up and I think they give a 30 day grace period for signing up!
Don't know about the only child not going to war!!

We have no draft. You are registering for selective service. Are you an only child or the only son?

Yes, every male must register for the selective service at 18. There are penalties for this; one being they will not grant any sort of financial aid for college. You should take care of that asap. You can do so at the Selective Services website.

It's not for thedraft,. It is Selective service. and yes, you have to sign up for it. all males 18 or lder must sign up. without it, you are inelfgible for many Federal aid programs such as Loans and assistance.
and as far as the only son myth.. that's exactly what it is..a myth. you re only exempt from COMBAT duties( not military service in the case of a draft, which will never happen in any event) if your parent or sibling were killed in combat.

yes...........even though there is no draft system in place at this time.......you still must register.........your eligibility for selection [ should it become necessary] will probably be very remote, because of the reason you stated, but there are position,s which are rated no risk.....such as desk clerk, state side......or draft / selective service...personnel [ people who work in the draft department]...etc. which you may be considered for if it ever become,s necessary........but you must register....refusal to do so may carry a penalty........................................and as far as the so called myth go,s...........it only apply,s to the last remaining male in the whole family....that can carry on the family name!

You need to register, you can do it online also. IF they ever started the draft again, and you got called up, then you would tell them you are an only child and they would take proper action.

It is not a draft, it is only registration but yes, you need to register. If a draft was even instituted, it is not likely you would go if you were a sole son.
