My camera doesnt have a usb port to plug into the computer so I have to finalize my discs before I am able to do anything with them. however, the only discs i have are dvd-r so i cant edit them. is there a way to copy the files off of the disc so i can make copies for my family or delete some worthless clips?

need video editing software
use pinacle video studio or
ulead video studio.
just import the movie from your dvd, then edit in video editing software. after that, chose save to dvd (in ulead, it has option to burn in dvd format)

A free program called Express Rip has worked for me getting stuff off audio CD's something I am not much into. Do a web search on the name.
