First, whose wedding is it? Yours of course. And what do YOU want? The days of gender associated roles are almost, if not all the way gone. Weddings are a time to celebrate love, passion, enduring freedom to be with the person YOU choose. That day should look like you want it to. Not something out of an ettiquette book that was written by someone (probably dead) whom you have never met.

It is important... really important... that when you look back at your wedding album, you see what YOU wanted. I made some decisions at my wedding because I got advice from other people about what I "Should" do... and I regret it. Be yourself. Be happy. Have a little girl bring you your rings. It will be beautiful!!

I was a ring bearer when I was seven years old for a wedding of a family friend who didn't have any nieces, nephews, or cousins to use as such. There were no problems with it amoung the wedding party. I wore similar colours to the bridemaid's and carried the little pillow so carefully because I had the RINGS. Your niece will love being the ring bearer. It's such an important job, and she can still wear a dress!

I've worked over one hundred weddings and have seen it all. I know of at least six occasions where the groom to be own daughter was the ring bearer and I know of two occasions where his niece was a ring bearer. There is nothing wrong with your niece being the ring bearer. This is your wedding.

I've never heard that only males could be ring-bearers. I was planning to have a friend's 14-year old daughter to be my ring-bearer, but they couldn't make it to the wedding, so I had a 10-year-old boy do it instead. Anyone you want can be a ring-bearer.

When my daughter was 4 she was the ring bearer in her Aunt's wedding 19 years ago. It was actually kinda cute to see her and her cousin, the flower girl come down the isle. Her Aunt found a cute pillow that matched her dress and we added small flowers and colored ribbons to it so it look girlie, she still has it up on her dresser and uses it to hold her rings.

Not at all. In fact I saw a picture once of a beautiful flower that the girl carries with both rings on separate petals. It was beautiful.

If a couple can have "Fido" as best man.......... you can have your beautiful Niece as a ring bearer.
