what program would I need to still use dial up service and receive faxes at the same time, or can I solve the problem with an all in one printer copier fax machine, since I live in rural america, and high speed internet is not available, only dial up service, and having another phone line is not an option. ??

you only can receive a fax by email at the same time......, and sending you will need a scanner to do it over the internet.....with dial-up you have 2 options, I have used both....

first, you can use www.callwave.com fax...is not free...

or

www.efax.com for free....but you need a scanner to send the fax...

on both, the faxes will be send to your email.

Frank,

With dial up, that's not possible. If you are online, the fax machine will receive a busy signal.

Have you looked at DirecTV or Dish for high speed? They are pricey ($99 a month when I last checked) but it may be a solution if you have a business.

you should use it as an answering gadget. sure you should use it as a fax gadget too. it ought to even answer and decide what type of call it really is. i wager you could make a telephone call trough it, yet i do not remember seing application for that. There are different purposes, like press a million to get this kind menus. Voice/Fax means that it ought to transmit voices and fax alerts besides as in simple terms documents.

it would have helped if you could get ISDN.....
Any two calls can be made at the same time....
But as you are living in a rural area.....and most probably working from a tower network( correct me if I'm wrong) ..you will only have access to one line ..outgoing or incoming at one time.
The best would be to get a V_Sat connection in you area... you get a high speed data line 128 or 256 or 512Kbps and with that two normal Telephone lines....
It should work you out 150 to 180 dollars a month...
