Obviously you're both young. He might be saying this and you don't respond, so his way of not feeling rejected or embarrassed is to say he's kidding. But, most likely, if you're both young then it's not really love...more like puppy love.

it could be one of two resins or even both. #1 he rely is in love he just doesn't no if the person he`s in love with love`s him and just get`s nerves after he seas it. thinking that the person he`s in love with wont echo his feeling`s. so to save himself any embarrassment or heart feeling`s he seas just kidding before thee other person can reply. or #2 he`s trying to find out if he`s in love with you. and seeing if it feels rite wen he seas it

it either means that they r immature or they kind mean it but dont know if u feel the same way or not and they fear rejection, so they say its a joke.

They could just be trying to hide it and say they're "Just Joking" but they really sound immature....... they sound like they just want to lead you on or something.......... If I were you, I wouldn't even bother with that person in that way......

it probably means they aren't sure how your taking it so they feel if they add a just kidding afterwards then if you say it back good and if you don't then they were just kidding.

usually it means that he does love you in a way, but doesn't want to get to serious and is afraid of his love being rejected by you. (he also may not want to look "dumb" in front of other people)

it means he is looking at ur reaction, and is scared that he might loose you in case you dont feel the same way.
