I think you should tell her how important her friendship is to you, that the love you feel for her is real and that you really want her around even if it´s only as a friend.Tell her that you don´t want her destroy her other relationship with the guy.Let her know that if there is a possibility of something between the two of happen, that you can wait so if/when it happens both of are going to be happy! Good Luck.
Take it from someone who knows what it feels like to be in the same place as you are!

I'm probably too old to be answering this kind of question, but I am certainly experienced in this kind of situation...I had a boyfriend that was always my main guy, but he wasn't always as available as my friends were, so I always had relationships with my friends that I didn't let develop because I had this "main squeeze" always to consider. I feel bad that I probably hurt so many good friendships that could've developed into something more if I hadn't put this restriction up. So is your girl putting a restriction on you because this other guy is more important? If so then she will still be your friend, but she probably won't let it go much farther...maybe if you are very clear and rather assertive about how much she means to you, she will change her priorities? I have regrets that I still live with... 30 years later have kept in contact with the "friend" that never pushed the relationship...I believe he really should have.
