My daddy spoils me, but he does not pay attention to me much, he is always working. It seems I have to get in huge trouble at school for him to pay attention, and even after this last episode, he is still isn't because I am not allowed back in my English class until he visits and it's been over a week now. How can I get the right kind of attention from my daddy?

Please note my Mom is no longer with us.

Instead of doing bad things to get his attention try doing good things. Get involved in extra-curricular activities that you enjoy.

Most importantly be honest with him. Say, "Daddy, I love you. I miss you. Thank you for working hard and giving me nice things. I like having new stuff... but it's just stuff. What I really want is YOU."

When I was growing up my dad worked insane hours as well, just so we could eat. It was hard not having him around. When my sister and I finally talked to him about it we all decided to set up a "father-daughter date night" where we could go to dinner or for a walk or play games with our dad. Maybe something like that would work for you and your father.

Good luck sweetie. Be bluntly honest with him. Appreciate what he's doing but tell him that you NEED more time with him.

Have you ever just told your dad that you need him to talk to and listen to you and basically just to be your dad. I'm truly sorry about your mom Your dad may not realize you need him now more than ever.Your dad may think that you don't need him as much since you are fourteen but as a teen you need a parent there for you. This may sound strange but have you ever told your dad that you love him? Sometimes we forget to say these simple words to those we love. You can always get positive attention by simply doing your best each day. Never give up on yourself.

I have no idea. I'm sorry! I really am interested in what both you and Em have to say, but I have no experience to back it up.

Why don't you just tell the teacher that your dad doesn't seem to care that much about your life because he's busy working, and so it's likely the year's going to end before you get back into that class!

PS: Talk to your dad for like 10 seconds about how you feel and if he cares enough, he WILL reform.

Good luck!!

First thing, this may come as a shock, us parents aren't perfect.

Your dad is doing what he thinks is the best for you. Perhaps he sees bringing money in to the house as being his major role in life. It won't be easy to change his attitude. You have to keep trying to talk to him,, but there is a fine line between talking and nagging. Don't make him feel bad about doing his best.

Guys like it straight forward. They aren't really good at non-verbal cues, like getting kicked out of English class in order to get his attention. Just tell him you want to spend some time together.

Every daddy loves when their child just wants to love them unconditionally. Sponaneously hug him, respect him and tell him how you feel about your relationship between the two of you.

why not just come out and ask him to schedule time with you, if that doesn't work, make time in his schedule for you. as for english class get your teacher to call your dad maybe you might luck out with your teacher just talking to him over the phone.

that is exactly wat my mom is doing to me. she never pays any attention to me unless i do something stupid. its so annoyinng i tryed to be good for like a whole week, wasnt easy, and she still didnt even care. so i guess the only way to get attention is to really stupid stuff. ur screwed on this one unless ur dad actually wants to pay attention to u, unlike my mom.

Get good grades. And do good things so he'll notice.
