If you are using Windows, you will have to reinstall application programs (such as Microsoft Word, Excel, etc) in your new laptop as the Windows registry needs to be updated. Otherwise, the application programs may not run properly or even not run at all.

You may "ghost" your the hard drive of your old laptop and duplicate it on your new laptop. In this way, all the applications (and data files) will be transferred into the new laptop.

However, you will probably need to reconfigure or reinstall some of the device drivers because the device drivers for the old laptop will be transferred into the new laptop as well. If you are using Windows XP, this is not a problem because it has a large collection of device drivers. In any case, you should still have all the device drivers since laptop is new (and you have not misplaced them yet).

Windows XP has a file and setting transfer wizard already in it. Click on Start, then Accessories, then System Tools, and you will see it. You will need to buy a cable, just follow the wizard to do what you want it to do. Chow
