You're bulimic...well I hope it hasn't been for a long time. And I'm not sure what you meant by 'do you actually use weight?' In terms of what does it do to your system...in one word...DAMAGE....and lots of it. The constant act of vomiting for one send the stomach acid which is highly not friendly up your esophagus and eventually wears it down...not to mention the eating away at your hands and fingernails. Also, in terms of losing calories...sure to some degree but in all honesty you would lose more by simply eating less per meal while maintaining your regularly meals. When you binge and purge it simply causes your body great chaos as it likes regular times and expects food at certain times. To eat a ton and then vomit or to skip meals...simply wreaks havoc on you. The body does not know whether to make heads or tails out of what's going on...it's fast or famine. Eating disorders have one of the highest death rates of all mental illnesses. The Eating Disorders Association (UK) estimates a 10% mortality rate. An 18% mortality rate has been suggested for Anorexia Nervosa.[1] In addition to the risk of suicide, “death can occur after severe binging in bulimia nervosa as well”.[14] For perspective, these death rates are higher than those of some forms of cancer.
Here are the list of possible side effects:
Bulimia can result in these listed health problem and death:
* Malnutrition
* Dehydration
* Electrolyte imbalance
* Hyponatremia
* Damaging of the voice
* Vitamin and mineral deficiencies
* Teeth erosion and cavities, gum disease
* Sialadenosis (salivary gland swelling)
* Potential for gastric rupture during periods of binging
* Esophageal reflux
* Irritation, inflammation, and possible rupture of the esophagus
* Laxative dependence
* Peptic ulcers and pancreatitis
* Emetic toxicity due to ipecac abuse
* Swelling of the face and cheeks, especially apparent in the lower eyelids due to the high pressure of blood in the face during vomiting.
* Callused or bruised fingers
* Dry or brittle skin, hair, and nails, or hair loss
* Lanugo
* Edema
* Muscle atrophy
* Decreased/increased bowel activity
* Digestive problems that may be triggered, including Celiac, Crohn's Disease
* Low blood pressure, hypotension
* Orthostatic hypotension
* High blood pressure, hypertension
* Iron deficiency, anemia
* Hormonal imbalances
* Hyperactivity
* Depression
* Insomnia
* Amenorrhea
* Infertility
* Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
* High risk pregnancy, miscarriage, still-born babies
* Diabetes
* Elevated blood sugar or hyperglycemia
* Ketoacidosis
* Osteoporosis
* Arthritis
* Weakness and fatigue
* Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
* Cancer of the throat or voice box
* Liver failure
* Kidney infection and failure
* Heart failure, heart arrhythmia, angina
* Seizure
* Paralysis
* Potential death caused by heart attack or heart failure; lung collapse; internal bleeding, stroke, kidney failure, liver failure; pancreatitis, gastric rupture, perforated ulcer, depression and suicide.

I'm bulimic and trying to recover. well your weight goes up and down all the time. It can rip your food tube and cause it to bleed, could cause an ulcer, ever time you throw up your heart stops a beat. It does slow your metabolism because one time your consuming regular amount of foods, then an abundant, your body is so confused. Not alll the food will come up your body will not let it all, The only way to break the cycle is to plan your meals and get out of the house and away from food until it is time so you are not tempted to binge/purge. The say that you don't lose the calories but I believe you do lose most of them because they are not digested. and last it will make you very weak your body has nothing to go with. This is so hard to stop I hope I helped with your questions. Good luck with trying to stop!!

A lot of the people on here have a big opinion on bulimia and anorexia when they have never been through it. Society tells us its bad and all about the negative side effects but when it comes down to it, someone who is bulimic doesn't care, they just want to lose weight.

You won't lose weight by being bulimic. This is why so many bulimics are also anorexic. Your body has already absorbed the calories before you can throw them up. There is no possible way you can throw up every calorie you put in your mouth. Going through this myself, I now have a rapid heart beat but other than that, no physical complications. I still think about it all the time and there are times when I do go throw up still because its just in me. It does slow your metabolism but that's why you work out more.

It might sound crazy but if you look at a pro-anorexia website it has a lot of information on both of the two. It's not biased and doesn't tell you not to do it... it just tells you the truth about it.

Bulimia is a mental disorder in which a person fears becoming obese. It's an obsession with food and weight characterized by repeated overeating binges followed by compensatory behavior, such as forced vomiting or excessive exercise. For an epidemic number of women and men, bulimia is a secret addiction that dominates their thoughts, undercuts their self-esteem, and threatens their lives.

Since the food is vomited, this causes the body to lose nutrients. This will in turn cause the metabolism to slow down as well as cause the body functions and organs to work harder until there is no more nutrients to provide an efficient function. Therefore, they will slowly start to shut down.

The end results for bulimia and anorexia is never a good one. Many cases result in death. Bulimics need to seek psychiatric treatment to overcome their disorder.

Bulimia really messes up ur system. It will dehydrate u and u will lose all your energy. You will feel really tired. it will give u bad breath and will stink up ur bathroom and your house. The acids from your stomach will burn your throat and make it sore. Your throat will also swell up and you will end up with a cobra face (bottom of you face will be enlarged). The acids from your stomach will also ruin your teeth. They will become brittle and also yellow. Also, every time you throw up, u deprive your body of all nutrients. it will get rid of important things like calcium, water, vitamins. In order to be beautiful, you need all these things in your body and it should come from food not just supplements. Your body also won't develop properly because u will be messing up your system. Bulimia can also eventuall make u depressed, obsessed and prevent u from having fun in life.

Beauty does not just come from being thin. Fat is necessary for the body. If you want beautiful, glowing skin, you need to have a little bit of fat. Its like internal moisturizer.

If you want to be thin, follow a healthy diet full of fruits, veggies, whole grains (brown breads, rice, pasta etc), soy, healthy fats (like fish, white meat, nuts) and occasional sweet stuff.

If you are not able to get out of the cycle, you should see a professional. There are many facilities for these types of things. Also, to get a realistic idea of what food does to your body, research online. Learn what kinds of foods are good for u. Look for food that tastes good AND is healthy for you. Eat healthy rather than throwing up everything u eat.

It will rot your teeth from the back.
you are starving your system of nutrition.
It will kill your metobilism.
What ever food in your stomach will come out.
It will destroy your throat.

Yes you lose weight becasue few calories get thru your system. You will be forcing the acids from your stomach thru your throat and mouth repeatly till it eats away at them. If done enough your hair will fall out due to malnutrition. Your eyes will have dark circles and you will have no energy.

Bulimia will do terrible things to you. You will lose your teeth, because the stomach acid that you vomit will eat away at them.

You will gradually dissolve your esophagus also.
Eventually, you will die.

So yes, you will be a very skinny DEAD GIRL.
Find a better way to lose weight--exercise & eating right.
