Overall in the medical world nurses do not get the respect they deserve. They are the critical key that connects the patient with the doctor, the nurse administers the medicine, gives the help and countless other things that are overlooked. They are looked down upon by doctors and people view them as a less importance aspect. I think this is one of the reasons that there is a nurse shortage in America and that now finally they are being given some well deserved respect.

It's just like any other job, you always have people in management that treat people badly, but there are a lot of great people in management as well.
I believe the real thing to look at here is the amount of job satisfaction you get from helping others. Being in the health care field is very rewarding but at the same time exceptionally stressful and tiring. It takes a special person to do that job and if your interested try volunteering for a while maybe at a nursing home or hospital to decide if it's something you would enjoy.

Nurses are like other people, they are treated like crap if they allow someone to treat them that way. Sometimes doctors, management, patients and their families treat nurses like crap for various reasons. Just remember, we are there to help! Love a Nurse!

They get respect from smart doctors, but that's about it. Hospital administrations have a bizarre tendency to look on them as an unfortunately needed expense rather than as inventory (nurses do for all intents and purposes run hospitals, so it would make better sense for them to think of the sale of nursing care as what they do for a living).

hi sonia,
respect aint something u take from someone else.
it comes from within. there aregood people and bad one,as u feel them when u see .
they are there in medical profession too.
nursing is a great profession, you need lot of patience and caring heart and understanding nature to help the sick.
a doctor never stays all the time with the patient, it is the nurses who take care of them.
many doctors never treat nurses, as u said as CRAP.
they are the only one who know what nurses are! and they should treat them.
i feel u r a good human to take care of people, u can without any doubt, like FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE.
with regards
dr.jagan...

Nurses are sometimes yelled at. It's degrading. But's not the only job where people are treated like that.

Only if they make the patient feel comfortable and if they are good looking and nice, also it all depends on your attitude.
