in my college app essay but I feel that the college admissions committee probably heard that too many times. Any suggestions as to some quotes along the same line. Btw its for UNC and the question is what can you contribute to the college?

Don't use a quote, they are cliche.
Maybe go more along the lines of judging someone, not by their words, but by their actions (my grandfather always told me that...*hint hint). Then talk about what you have done and what you want to do at UNC.

You might try using the whole of the quote, which was approximately this:

"My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.

Fellow citizens of the world, ask not what America can do for you, but what we, together, can do for the freedom of all mankind."

But, I did that as a poster for an art class a few decades ago, so look it up. It was part of his Inaugural Address.

Why not try astounding them with something original from your own brain instead of trying to baffle them with BS?

Besides, don't you think they've seen this ploy before? I mean, c'mon, you're not the first college wanna-be that has thought of this, you know.

I think that people want peace so much that one of these days government had better get out of their way and let them have it.
