Im back...about a week ago my cat had one kitten. I asked if that was ok. Well she seems to be doing fine, feeding her one baby, is eating and drinking like she should. Now my question to all of you is her nose and gums seem to be pale. Is this ok or is this a sign of a "toxic" cat. Remember I cant afford a trip to the vet and I have called the spca and humane society and they have done all they can.

Pale gums is a very bad sign, she needs medical attention. Pale or white mucous membranes either indicates blood loss (internally) or the beginning of shock (possibly from septicemia, if she didnt pass a placenta or another kitten still inside her, or mammary or uterine infection) This is very serious. This is not an okay sign at all. Gums and nose should be a pinkish color, pale means either they are lacking nutrients or they have a disease. Try feeding her special food for the gums that helps prevent disease, which you can get at Petco, Petsmart, or any other pet store. After a week, if that doesn't help you'll need to call your vet, whether you afford it or not. You'll be able to gradally pay off the vet fees, but you have to take her. Either you risk your cat's life, or you take her to the vet.

pale gums can be a sign of anemia, which cannot be treated at home. I hate to tell you this, but I would call the spca back and see if they can arrange treatment on a budget... or you may have to sign your cat over. either way, for mama and kitten's sake, you should at least keep an eye on your cat. if she shows no other signs of anemia, just keep a close eye on her. good luck.

I don't know if the same symptoms apply to cats but my Shitz tzu became suddenly ill and we rushed her to emergency. The first thing they checked was the inside of her ears and her gums. She was very pale (we didn't notice this) The diagnosis was anemia and she was in critical condition. She seemed okay, eating and drinking, up until the night she collasped walking across the floor. It was expensive to save her. You should take her before it gets to that point.

I've never heard of a cat having one kitten. Maybe she didn't completely deliver her litter. There has to be a clinic around your area that won't charge a lot to look at your cat. Please have her checked. Find the money, have her checked.
