I'm EVERY aware that this is not the only DANGOUS job...I never once said that...I just want people to understand the numbers...I once posted a R.I.P on a fallen officer and someone had the guts to e-mail telling ME I had no right ot post it and the offiver deserved it...Unlike oil workers (with all respect) they don't get the rumors and bad talk that officers get with death hits them!!!

I don't hate officers. They have come to my rescue many times and are there to only help me. I have learned that if you show respect, you'll get respect. Those "haters" are usually criminals and don't want to get caught.

Bobbie, I think that the main focus of this question is not just about accidental deaths, but more about the maliciously slain police members.

Many police that are killed were just doing routine patrols or checking out suspicious people. Some were even ambushed and set up. Generally, the offenders are not known to the victims, so retribution is hardly the motive.

It surprises me about the ages and years of experience these members have. Clearly it shows, on average, that the police officers killed were quite experienced and mature.

At my best guess, the reason people hate police as a whole (not just particular officers) is that either they, or their family feel they have been hard done by at some stage. Another big contributor, would have to be parents who use police as a threat to their children. Telling a child that the police will take them away if they don't eat their vegetables is clearly not true, but in the mind of a child, it must have terrifying results.

I don't hate police officers, and they do a dangerous job. However, my husband works in the oilfield and there have probably been 4 deaths in the last 12 months JUST IN New Mexico....not counting heart attacks and vehicle accidents, deaths caused by accidents that took place ON THE RIGS. That's just one state, so this notion that a police officer is in so much greater danger than rough necks, miners, and others that work in dangerous professions is basically a ration.

I don't think that many people hate the police, except for real actual lawbreakers, real criminals. It is unfortunately "cool" to hate the cops, lots of kids supposedly hate the police for things as stupid and unrelated as the illegality of the use of marijuana, for example.... If put up aganst the wall and confronted with the reasons for their supposed hatred, most people would have to admit that it is not only a necessary job, but also a risky one too, and not worthy of hating he who does it.
I personally do not hate the police at all, but I am sometimes baffled by the fact that there are individuals (such as yourself, perhaps) eho have no beef with using physical force on other people, even if they do in fact deserve it or are just asking for it in a given situation (violent criminals, people like that).

I am not a law breaker. But yes I do hate cops. I went to Vietnam. I was there for fifteen months. Before I left I got married. Wile I was serving my country, (That's what they told use we were doing anyway.) Three of the city cops were taking turns banging my wife. OK, Maybe she was a tramp. But they new she was married. I was back 8 months when I became a father. Still I tried to make my marriage work. But I got tired of seeing cop cars leaving just as I got home. So I got a divorce. Then as life went on I met other cops. Most in a unofficial manner. Once I seen three cops beat a man half to death while he was cuffed. Just out side my bedroom window. I met another who was moon lighting in my job. He ruined an expensive patio and blamed me. Another was the brother of a cousin by marriage. I heard him offer to kill or frame a man that had offended his brother. He bragged about carrying a spare gun to plant on people. I was invited to a party that was 99% cops. (Which I didn't know till I got there.) They had a large mound of cocaine on the dining room table and about fifty marijuana cigarettes already rolled up. I got so scared I got sick and had to be taken home. I stayed scared for years just for knowing about it. There were many others I met. But I have not met one that didn't prove to be of low character.

I don't hate all police officers just one in particular. I hate him because of how he raised me and what he did to others in the name of the law. He truly was a blemish on the face of police officers as a whole. Police do a very dangerous job. I have much admiration for the Police officers in general, yes there are always rotten ones in everything.

I don't hate anyone...for selfish reasons
The problem as I see it, there are too many bad guys. Humans are social creatures, being so if you push them out of one social group they tend to gravitate towards another even if they despise it. Not being able to belong is inhumane. I feel sad for those who don't have the mental ability to belong or the ability to deny their addictions, and angered by those who prey on them. As long as there is fear, humiliation, and intolerance there will be those who react, In psychopathic, or even more dangerously Sociopathic episodes. In which there is no end. Incidentally you can't truly hate unless your frustrated by being denied love. But this is a problem with society in general, unfortunately its the police that are the easiest targets.

Irene...those that don't like us DON'T MATTER. Its the one or two over your career that say "Thank you." that will make it all worthwhile. The ones that hate cops are like dog s**t on your shoes. Scrape em off and move on. Hang in there and stay safe!
