the first meeting with a pyschiatrist is twice as lot as you're normal meetings, and it's where they diagnose you. they're probably give you some forms called CBIs, or cognitive behavioural inventories, which see how you're feeling and doing emotionally, as well as ask you some question. if you're healthy and happy, they will have no need to perscribe you medication. don't be nervous.

You'll probably just sit and talk... I imagine it is up to you whether your mom is in the room or not. There is a time frame for depression - symptoms must have existed for some time before being diagnosed (I forget how long, though). I have never been to one, but part of their job is to make you feel comfortable so you can open up - many people enjoy seeing their therapists on a regualr basis (not that you will have to, or anything like that...). Try not to be too nervous - they are there to help you. And remember, you will only get help if you want help - be honest and open, and your sessions should be helpful. If you are diagnosed with some form of depression, you might be prescribed an anti-depressant. These take a few weeks to become effective, so don't expect to feel great immediatley - give them time to work.

Hey, I know how it is to go to a pshyciatrist for the first time. I have been going to one for over 1 year now. The first meeting was interesting, mainly you will talk about your past, why you feel depressed, and might give you paper work to fill out. What ever you do PLEASE fill out the paper work truthfully, it will help the pshyciatrist know how to help you through everything. Trust me you will fell uncomfertable but get to know them and you will be able to talk to them more freely than you would every expect. Hope everything goes well for you. Oh if you need to talk to someone who has been to one before please feel free to talk to me I will help you in anyway that i can.

The psychiatrist will probably begin by asking you about your reason for coming, about your usual emotions and possibly any home situations that could be contributing to depression, how depression has been affecting your everyday life, etc.
The most important part of the first meeting is to establish a relationship. If, for any reason, you feel uncomfortable, (ESPECIALLY if the psychiatrist dismisses your concerns, avoids answering questions, or does not allow you to have any say in your treatment plan) PLEASE look for another psychiatrist.

If it quite is not too early in the morning, make a while to do rest ideas, like workout or respiration routines. in simple terms learn this night what you are able to if it have been at your commonplace college. have confidence, and don't be so frightened. needless to say, being slightly frightened enables you think of swifter, by using fact the adrenaline will help with blood pass and concentration. you're able to do it, and once you're accomplished, you would be wanting accomplished all you are able to. do not stay in the undesirable.

Don't be nervous...the psychiatrist is there to help you. Just be very honest with your answers so that you can be diagnosed properly. It's actually a very good experience to be able to get your feelings out to someone who knows how to relate to you. Just remember....BE HONEST. Psychiatrists are highly trained and never judge people.

I've never been to one. I'm sure they will ask you what is bothering you etc. But if your depressed you can get everything out you need to get out to someone who is impartial. Dr./patient confidentiality is a must, they cannot tell your parents or anyone what you talk about. Please be honest with them as to what is bothering you. Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

The first meeting she/he will just ask you ?'s about what is going on. They will write down everything you say and figure out your situation from there. The first meeting they are just trying to get to know you and what you are feeling. It is not scary and good luck
