I'm assuming you mean legally, but the obvious illegal method is just to throw a few suitcases in your car and tell the customs officer that you are going to take an extensive tour of the US for a vacation. Start a small business and you're home free.

If you want to live in the US, you can consider a TN visa, which is a special sort of professional visa for Canadians and Mexicans who work in certain professions. There's also the H1B visas, but those are very limited in number. Both require an employer to sponsor them, but the time spend living in the US can be used towards permanent residency.
