Well I am not what yo would call buff.I am 6'3 and 215.They reason alot of the others as pointed out.The gear that we wear is meant to keep heat and moisture out.The problem is it also keeps heat in.Not to mention trying to drag a charged hose line through a house while you are in gear and SCBA.It is a very demanding professionThe gear alone can weigh up to 50 lbs.,the air pack another 20 lbs. and then the charged hose line is even heavier than that.Plus you have to be fit to be abe to stay in that gear for a prolonged peiod of time. Then you have to get into the extrication equip.I wont even guess the wait of those and even when you have 4 people trying to lift a 300+ lb patient on a backboard.

Firefighters have to maintain their fitness and health to perform the tasks involved in firefighting, Haz-Mat,Rescue and EMS. Wearing turnout gear and an air pack on a 95 degree day can take its toll, but then rescue someone trapped in a fire, perform CPR, and fight the fire requires more than a couch potato build.

IDK concerning to the 6 foot tall element, yet all firefighters could be rather good to lug all that kit around. think of roughly it a minute, and you will see what I mean. positioned on customary clothing, then heavy overalls, boots, an insulated coat, a helmet, and an entire oxygen tank. Now which you're dressed, grab the two (A) a severe-tension hearth hose, that could whip customary people around like a dragon, or (B) a heavy ax, and RUN WITH IT. Now, chop down a burning door. do no longer lose any velocity! i'm out of breath already. i think of all of them probably could paintings out like Arnold Swartzenegger to do stuff like that each and all and sundry the time. settee potato signing off, and not smoking in mattress.

firefighters have to be fit so they can fight fires and carry people out of buildings quickly if they need to. not to mention how fast they have to get their gear on and go. hope this helps. good luck.
