not always, it didnt work for me. after progesterone gel, pitocin, breaking the bag and everything else under the sun, i finally got a c section 20 hours later since i never budged from 2 cm dialated and 80 % effaced... it really just depends on the person... i know alot of moms that have both stories, some had no probs, some ended up with a csection after 12-24 hrs of trying to induce labor... and i was at 42 wks when they induced with my daughter

As far as I know of, yes. It may take some time for the medications to work. There are different ways to start inducing too. You could end up with the dis-solvable tablet that they use to thin your cervix, or just pitosin, which is an IV. Either way, it will work, it may just take some time...I was induced, and I started on a Tuesday morning, didn't have him until Wednesday morning, but everyone is different. Good luck

I was induced, with prostaglandin gel and pitocin, at 5:30 on a Monday morning, and my daughter was born, via emergency C-section, at 2:30 on Wednesday afternoon. It didn't take right away, obviously, but it was a LOOOONG labor, followed by 3 hours of pushing, fetal and maternal distress, and surgery.
Bummer. Except for the new baby part. :)

i have had two births both were induced. one the water broke naturally the other they broke my water. one labor was 4 hours the other two..the first which was the longest..took all day for the drugs to kick in. the second within an hour. i am not sure that once they start to induce you can really tell if its the first time or the second because its done by iv.
