I just need to know. I'm 12. Everyone is dating but I think it is stupid to date at such a young age...so what is a good age?

16 is perfect for double dating. 18 is for single dating. Really! People that date younger than that end up in bad situations.
Like they have problems adjusting to reality, and life. Why, they have lost the feeling of finding a true friend, and get the message that if they want to or see something different, then they can just leave what they have, and go for the new toy. Then when they grow up and get married, they have this set idea from their youth. What you end up with is a broken family.
I'm not saying don't have guy and girl friends. A party can be considered a date with the group. A picnic in the park, a fishing trip, a sleep over, (yes with guys) a theater like a musical (the Lion King was great!), trip to the museum, kite flying, bicycle trips, help an elderly person with yard work, volunteer for something, etc. All these things can be done as a co-ed group.
My daughter did just that until she graduated from college! They even had summer camp outs! Rock climbing, and so on. She was and is beautiful (inside and out), and everyone wanted to join in the activities. They had groups as large as 100 or more people fishing, and then having a fish fry with a marshmallow roast afterwards. Hiking very long trips, and I could go on.
She is married now, and has a little boy. Her husband takes her camping, hiking, fishing, museums, etc., because this is where he met her. And they enjoy all of it very much!
I tell you this, because you are a girl. I have three sons, and they did the same things, but within there age group. My baby boy is 26, lives in DC, still single, and does the same thing. Last night they (about 20 of them) went to a movie then had a snow ball fight afterwards, followed with hot chocolate and cookies. He says he's having too much fun to get married.
So, as you can see, it is a lot more fun, and less problems with the good group than singling out. Leave the drugs, booze, show-offs, get in trouble people at home, till they get strightened out. They too will learn to have good clean fun!

You are a very smart girl, I must say for not dating at such a young age. I didn't start dating until I was 24, but when I was your age, I just didn't see the point in dating at such a young age. I noticed that those who dated while in high school didn't do well in school. You should concentrate in your studies and excel at school, and wait until you turn 18 if you want to date. I am engaged now and I have no regrets of not having dated earlier. I even got a scholarship when I graduated from high school to pay for my college education. It was all worth the wait, Good luck!

1. It's stupid to date at 12. It's stupid to do something merely because everyone else is doing it.
2. If you think something is stupid and still do it, you are even more stupid. If you think something is stupid, but investigate it further and find out it's actually not stupid, then it is OK to change your opinion of it.
3. Better to start dating too late than too early.
4. "A good age" varies from person to person. Until you find yourself really really wanting to date someone who you think is amazing, you have not reached a good age yet.
5. The younger the person you date, the more likely it is they will not have good relationship skills and this could be painful for you.
